At Bren Mar Park Elementary, our commitment to our community is one of our core values. Whether it is through our monthly family markets, coffee conversations, or hosting our local Girl Scout troops, we strive to be of service in any way that we can. To honor the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. on January 16, 2023 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., BMP will be hosting a few Day of Service opportunities and would hope that you and your students will join us in honoring his legacy of community service and leadership.
Opportunity #1 - Collection of Items for Individuals without Housing
December 1, 2022 - January 9, 2023 we will be collecting donations of the following new/packaged items:
- Socks
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Lip Balm/Chapstick
- Hot Hand Warmers
- Gloves
- Travel Size Tissue Packs
- Travel Size Lotion
- Hand Sanitizer
- Travel Size Shampoo and Conditioner
- Travel Size Body Wash
Collection boxes are located in each classroom and the BMP Front Office. On the Day of Service we will be sorting the donations to compile gift bags to be delivered by members of the PTA to individuals currently unhoused throughout our local and surrounding community. Opportunity #2 - Messages from a Mustang
Families are invited to join us to create cards, pictures, and other well wishes artwork to be distributed to two local nursing home/rehabilitation facilities. We will be creating Valentines’ Day, Get Well Soon, and Encouragement cards, as well as pictures and cheerful notes for residents to display in their rooms.
Opportunity #3 - My Mustang Mission
And finally, we will also be working on a school display project to capture what Dr. King’s message means to us as individuals and how we can be of service to others in our community as part of our daily lives.
Classrooms with the most student participation on January 16, 2023 will earn a pizza party.
