McLean Families: There’s Still Time! Easy Online Donations To Support MHS Students In Need

McLean Matters

There’s Still Time! – Easy Online Donations

Thank you to the parents that signed up to donate gift cards to support the 280 MHS families in need. We need only 85 gift cards for $25 and $50. You do not need to leave your house to purchase and deliver gift cards to Jen Hill at McLean High School! Simply go online to purchase “plastic” or “E-gift” cards to be mailed directly to her at MHS. The deadline for Gift Cards is TODAY, but they will still go to good use to support the MHS families in need, even if they don’t arrive until later this week or next week.

Your donation makes an immediate impact on our families in need, so please consider donating gift cards for $25 or $50. You can donate one, two, or multiple gift cards.

STEP 1: Click HERE to sign-up to donate $25 or $50 gift cards, then

STEP 2: Go online to SAFEWAYTARGET, or WALMART and purchase “plastic” or “E-gift” cards to be mailed directly to Jennifer Hill:

Official White House Ornament Fundraiser

The McLean PTSA is once again offering the Official 2022 White House Ornaments as a fundraiser again. This year's ornament honors President Richard Nixon. The Nixon's were the first to introduce a gingerbread house into the White House as Christmas decoration. So we made the White House in gingerbread. It shows the north and south portico's and has Pat Nixon's gingerbread recipe on the inside. Also if you scratch the front cover of the booklet it smells like gingerbread. Very cool! Perfect gift for your family, friends, staff, and clients!

Plus, your purchase supports the Grad Party for Class of 2023.

Ornaments can be ordered here https://mcleanptsa.org/white-house-ornament-fundraiser/ until December 9th. After your purchase, you will be able to pick up the ornament from the school front office. We will update with the dates and timings for pickup.

The McLean PTSA/ANGP needs volunteers for the White Ornament Fundraiser sales.  Sign up HERE for 1-2 hour shifts at Saturday's Holiday Bazaar and before/after school the week of December 12th.

SPIRIT Day Information and Registration for Seniors

When: December 12, 8:00am - 3:00pm

Location: McLean Community Center

McLean HS is offering The United States Department of Justice Community Relations Service (CRS) School - SPIRIT Program to interested seniors on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the McLean Community Center. This is a full-day field trip for students who sign up for the event.  The PTSA is sponsoring the event and will provide lunch for all participants. Students will hear from the Keynote speaker, Raj Parekh, the First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

This event is open to Seniors as an opt-in for the first 150 students interested in attending and trying to make a difference  at McLean.  Members of the FBI, DOJ personnel, GMU mediation graduate students, and members of other community organizations will engage students and school personnel in identifying issues impacting McLean High School and develop and implement solutions to resolve those issues.

The program is student-driven and helps students develop problem solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization, decision-making, and solution development. As a result, students take a leadership role in addressing conflicts in their schools and build the skills and capacity to dissuade future conflicts.

Requests for parents:

Volunteer to help on December 12th. We need parents to help with morning registration, assist with lunches, and chaperone dismissal. Please sign-up here. Questions? Email Julie Smith and Savitha Sagar at programs@mcleanptsa.org

- Encourage students to participate, please fill out the form. Questions? Contact Jeff Barham, Assistant Principal at jbarham@fcps.edu.
