Congratulations

Mr. Kownacki,

I am a proud parent of Akhil Mekala who is a seventh grader at South County Middle School. I have some exciting news to share about Akhil. Akhil is an avid lover of Lego and Lego programming. He signed up for this year's First Lego League (FLL). His team (Team Flaming Hot

Doritos) won the FLL Divisional competition in the Innovation Project category. The competition was held at Hayfield Secondary School yesterday November 20, 2022. The innovation project idea presented was Akhil's original idea that was expanded and elaborated by the team. In addition to winning the competition in first place, his team also qualified for the State level competitions that will be conducted on December 10, 2022.

Best Regards

Satish Mekala

Social/Emotional Check-in

During this change of season, it is normal to feel a change in your mood. Changes in your mood can sometimes be managed with the following strategies.  These strategies are helpful for students and adults.

  • Tracking your student’s mood can help you gain a greater understanding of shifts and changes in emotions. Keeping written track of and journaling about their moods may help students notice patterns in their mood shifts as well as potential triggers that might affect their mood.
  • Exercise produces endorphins, which are hormones that help control stress and improve mood. Even moderate exercise can help relieve frequent or abrupt changes in mood.
  • Maintaining a schedule can be helpful. Doing things at the same time every day can help regulate emotional highs and lows.
  • Sleep can help improve mood. Sleep deprivation can affect appetite and energy levels. It can also contribute to sadness, irritability, and general lowness of mood.
  • Nutrition is considered to be a vital component of mood management. Getting enough nutrients and avoiding the consumption of large amounts of sugar and caffeine may help reduce the frequency of mood swings
