Hello Scottie Families!
We are so grateful to our amazing BBES PTO and community for the generous donations of gift cards and treats to make our December Days of Cheer possible! We know that our staff are truly appreciative of the recognition and we wouldn't be able to honor them in this way without the support of our Scottie families!
Along with our December Days of Cheer, we kick-off Inclusive Schools week on Monday with "think outside the box, wear flannel/plaid!" More information below on Inclusive Schools, December Days of Cheer, and the fun spirit days we have planned to celebrate. Be sure to check them out!
Have a great weekend, Scotties!

Bonnie Brae ES "Wants and Needs" Drive
Let’s come together as a school community to assist in making sure that every child is getting something that they want AND need this holiday season. ECHO directly helps local families in need with obtaining items related to basic needs, as well as, holiday gifts and meals. Bonnie Brae will be hosting a donation drive from November 28 until December 12 where families may donate items to the boxes outside of the Main Office to help families in need.
Learn more about our BBES “Wants and Needs” Drive to see what families want and need!
December 5-9 - Inclusive Schools Week
Dec 5-9 celebrates Inclusive Schools Week. Inclusive experiences for children with and without disabilities and their families create a sense of belonging and membership, positive social relationships and friendships, and development and learning to reach their full potential. This year’s theme is Unity.
Our students have the same access to academic, non-academic, extra-curricular, and community activities and educational settings as their nondisabled peers, whenever appropriate.
BBES Inclusive Schools Spirit Week
We would like to recognize unity within the community through a schoolwide spirit week.

Bodhi Day
Bodhi Day, Thursday, December 8, is the Buddhist holiday that commemorates the day that the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni), experienced enlightenment, also known as bodhi in Sanskrit and Pali.
The school calendar recognizes many religious and cultural observances (O days) during the school year. There is school on these days, however, the School Board has directed that tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events will not be held on these observance days. Learn more about Bodhi Day in this video from the Miami Children’s Museum.

Inclement Weather Guidance
Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.
FCPS’ inclement weather procedures will remain the same as last year. The first five inclement weather days will be traditional “snow days” with no school activities. After those five days, we will use the flexibility provided by the Virginia General Assembly to have unscheduled virtual learning days, whenever possible, to maintain the continuity of learning. Virtual learning on these days will be synchronous/live instruction, following the inclement weather virtual learning day schedule (includes a two-hour delay).
FCPS’ website is generally the first mode of communication during emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan ahead for the winter season. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in weCare@school, bookmark the FCPS website, plan for childcare, if appropriate, and know what items your child may need to take home before a weather event.
