Inclusive Schools Week

Unity

December 5-9 is Inclusive Schools Week.  This week celebrates the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference, and other factors. The week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students and parents to discuss what else needs to be done in order to ensure their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children.

This year, the Inclusive Schools Week’s theme is “Unity Within Our Community.”

Turning 18 in Virginia: What Individuals with Disabilities Need to Consider

December 9th | 10:00 am

Turning 18 is a big deal. An 18-year-old is legally considered an adult in Virginia and can make legal, financial, medical, and educational decisions in their life. For some individuals with disabilities, this will not be an issue. Others may need support. This workshop will share basic information about things that need to be considered as your loved one turns 18. Presented in collaboration with The Arc of Greater Prince William. Find out more and register for this event on the PEATC website.

Student Business- The Key Café

As part of the Key Café, run by the 17-22 year old classes, Ms. Caitlin’s class runs a coffee cart!  The students brew and deliver coffee to staff throughout the building.  Students helped develop the business plan, they created the menu, and they shop weekly for inventory.  Students applied and were assigned jobs as either a barista, delivery specialist, or cleaner.  All of the students really enjoy participating in the coffee cart!
