Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Spotlight

SEL Spotlight

The five competencies of Social Emotional Learning:

Self-Awareness

Self-Management

Responsible Decision-Making

Relationship Skills

Social Awareness

With the busy holiday season upon us, it may seem overwhelming to put one more thing on your list, but there are many opportunities to focus on children’s social emotional development this time of year.  Getting kids involved in the holidays and identifying their feelings along the way is a fun and easy way to encourage SEL development.  Two articles with easy resources to implement during the holidays are 4 Tips to Support Social and Emotional Learning During the Holidays and Social & Emotional Development During the Holidays.

Meadowlark

Crossfield Winter Walk of Lights at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Join the Crossfield community for Winter Walk of Lights on Thursday, December 1st, 2022.  The Winter Walk is more than a half-mile long, one-way route providing an enchanting and safe evening activity.  Crossfield will have a dedicated check-in table to pick up your discounted $13 tickets.  You may arrive anytime between 5:30 and 9pm to enter the gardens. Please put an estimated time your family intends to arrive. We won't hold you to it, but it will help us gauge crowds and manage volunteers. Purchase your discounted tickets before November 28th, 2022!

We are excited to share that our friends at the Reimann Group Realtors are generously providing 50 vouchers to be redeemed the night of the event for a S'mores kit to enjoy while there. We will randomly select 50 names from the list of people who have purchased tickets by NOVEMBER 22nd. If selected, the voucher will be included with your entry ticket envelope to pick up upon arrival.

2022 Holiday Giving at Crossfield

You Can Offer Hope to Families in Need

If you would like to help some of the Crossfield families in need of holiday assistance this year, please follow these instructions:

  1. Purchase a gift card(s) to Wal-Mart and/or Target (preferably in $20 increments).
  2. Write the amount on the gift card.
  3. Bring the gift card to Crossfield’s main office by Friday, December 2, 2022.

How to Inspire Kids to Give

It can be challenging for kids to see how donating money is meaningful. A few easy, stay-at-home ways you can provide your children inspiration for giving include:

  • Read books about the importance of giving. Some examples include: Those Shoes, The Spiffiest Giant in Town, The Gift Inside the Box, What Is Given from the Heart, or Under the Lemon Moon
  • Have a family movie to watch a film that encourages the spirit of giving (after checking commonsensemedia.org, of course). Gandhi, The Ultimate Gift, Pollyanna, Batkid Begins, Pay It Forward or Millions, to name a few.
  • After your children feel inspired, you may be able to encourage them to include a few dollars from their own piggy bank to help with holiday giving at Crossfield.
