5. Help Us Thank Woodson Teachers and Staff
The PTSO invites all Woodson families to celebrate and recognize our wonderful teachers and staff this holiday season.
High School isn’t the same as elementary school where we had organized gift-giving and room parents. Please take time throughout the school year, and especially now in the holiday season, to recognize and thank the educators and support professionals that work with our children. Simple notes of appreciation, emails of gratitude and letters in support of teachers, counselors, principal, and/or support staff have enormous, meaningful impact.
Additionally, Woodson PTSO is collecting gift cards to raffle at the Annual Holiday Party for the Teachers and Staff on Monday, December 12th. Parents, families and students are invited to donate gift cards; please send donated gift cards to the front office in an envelope addressed to “Attn: Celeste Jones, Holiday Party Raffle Prizes.”
We kindly ask that we receive all donations by Wednesday, December 7th. Please contact Celeste Jones at cbjones@fcps.edu for more information.
Students enjoyed meeting Mickey Mouse after the Tunes for Tots concert.
The first full week of December is recognized throughout the country to celebrate including all students in education. Monday-Friday, December 5th-9th is National Inclusive Schools Week.
6. TalkingPoints: 2-Way Messaging (Multi-Language Translation) App
FCPS has recently adopted TalkingPoints, a two-way messaging app that allows parents and caregivers to communicate with teachers and schools. Look for messages from your child’s school on how they are implementing the app.
The app translates messages, so teachers can input messages in English and parents can respond in their preferred language. TalkingPoints supports 125 languages, making it easier and faster for our FCPS families to connect with their schools.
If you need to update your preferred correspondence language, contact the Woodson's registrar Casey Delaney at cdelaney@fcps.edu.
For more information, visit the FCPS TalkingPoints webpage.
7. FCPS ESSER/RTS Student Survey
The ESSER/RTS student survey will be administered with students in grades 4 through 12 during the revised window of Monday, December 5 through Friday, December 16.
Survey invitations, with an FCPS survey dissemination seal, will be sent to student email addresses on December 5.
Congratulations to Ryan Dickerson, Woodson's Outstanding Professional! (pictured Ms. Megan McLaughlin, Braddock District School Board Representative, Mr. Dickerson, and Dr. Carlyn Floyd, principal)
8. Jingle Your Way to a Safe Holiday Contest
Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety (YOVASO) is excited to share the 2022 Jingle Your Way to a Safe Holiday: Buckle Up and Celebrate Responsibly Contest with your school! The goal of this educational and fun initiative is to keep our teen drivers and passengers safe during the high-risk holiday season.
The contest will focus on seat belt use and celebrating and driving safely throughout the holidays. As part of the contest, students will compete individually or in groups by creating a safe driving jingle (short song or tune) in video format that promotes a seat belt and/or safe driving message for the teen audience. For contest guidelines, prize information and more, refer to the attached Contest Overview and Letter. More information is also available on our website at www.yovaso.org/jingle-contest or on this flier.
