Little Run News: 11/20/22

Greeting Roadrunner Families,

It has been a wonderful week at Little Run. Thank you to many families who came to visit this week for classroom activities and specials visits! Our music, art, PE. technology, and FLES teachers are amazing, and we appreciate their idea of welcoming families to their classes. As Family Engagement Month continues this month (every month), please know that our partnership is very important to the success of our students.

Thank you to many of you who came out for our PTA meeting on Thursday. Our students are truly benefiting from the outstanding support of the PTA. Families had an opportunity to hear more about Portrait of a Graduate attributes and skills and how they are able to support at home. Here are some resources shared at the meeting. Portrait of a Graduate information for families.

Stay tuned for many more opportunities to take part in school events and to learn together.

Warmest regards,

Third Grade Field Trip

An extra special thanks to the 3rd-grade teachers, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Edmonson, and the many volunteers who chaperoned our students to the National Geographic Museum’s exhibit, Beyond King Tut. They had a fantastic time as students were all engaged and working hard on their scavenger hunt. Students especially loved “the first room behind the door with hieroglyphics. It set the stage for the journey into ancient Egypt and the tomb of King Tut”; “cracks in the wall that let us “glimpse” inside of the tomb to see all of the treasures they discovered in his tomb” and so much more.

We had our second SAC meeting and it was awesome. The students have a lot to share:

  • We had a table at the Roadrunner Games where we sold donations from 5 and Below. We raised over $100! This is huge for us and we look forward to our next fundraiser.
  • SCA officers and Reps lined our front drive with American flags for Veteran’s Day.
  • Our next Spirit Day will be Wednesday November 30, 2022. The theme is Teachers Dress Like Students and Students Dress Like Teachers. Fourth grade SCA reps are working on making posters for the November Spirit Day.
  • Our next SCA meeting will be Wednesday, December 14th.
  • We will have a week long PAJAMAS spirit week December 12th-16th.

Opportunities to Participate in the Strategic Planning Process

FCPS is offering a number of opportunities for parents/caregivers to be involved in the Strategic Planning process! Check out two immediate options below:

Nominate Yourself or Someone Else for the Family Team

We are currently seeking nominations for parents/caregivers who are interested in contributing to Strategic Plan development as part of the Family Team. This team will represent the rich diversity of families that make up FCPS’ community, and will focus on identifying engagement and outreach practices that will improve our partnerships with families.

If you are interested in being part of the Family Team or would like to nominate someone else, please fill out this form by Tuesday, November 22.

Be a Key Communicator!

If you are a member of a community organization or group, consider signing up to be a key communicator during the strategic planning process. FCPS key communicators are active members of the community who people turn to for information, and have an interest in sharing information about the school division and encouraging involvement. If this describes you or someone you know, please get the details and complete this form by Monday, November 28.
