Two more days to donate to the Cardinal Campaign! We have raised $9,106 towards our goal of $12,000. As of today, the five classes leading the competition for extra recess and popsicles with the highest participation are Heyer, Perkins, Pankey, Stocking, and Haas! Top three classes win!
Now that my plea for money is out of the way, I wanted to share that we had a great PTA meeting last Tuesday. I know the weather was pretty yucky, but please take some time to read through the minutes to hear from Ms. Williams and our Specials teachers. Some of my key takeaways were:
- Ms. Williams is eager to have more volunteers in the school! Parents and caregivers are encouraged to volunteer in the lunch room for as little as 30 minutes a week. Or they might ask their student's teacher or specialist how they can help. (Ms. Singletary would welcome volunteers in the art room! And the PE teachers especially love volunteers on Field Day in the spring!)
- Parents are welcome to have lunch with their child in the cafeteria.
- FCPS accepts old instruments! FCPS can fix them up and you may be able to write the donation off on your taxes. Contact band teacher Ms. Meltzer if you have an instrument to donate.
Finally, as you are grocery shopping or shopping on Black Friday this week, please consider picking up a gift card at Target, Walmart, or Giant to help families in our community with their holiday shopping. Ms. Lujan is collecting gift cards in the office through Thursday, December 8.

CPES will be collecting gift cards to help families within our community again this holiday season. Gift cards can be of any amount and are most helpful from stores such as Target and Walmart. We also collect gift cards from Giant for groceries over winter break. Donations can be dropped off in the front office by Thursday, December 8 and will directly support families here at Cunningham Park. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is our e-mail group to recieve updates on needs within our community - things such as snacks for classrooms/school clinic, winter clothing, grocery gift cards and more.
Have you tried to join our Neighbors Helping Neighbors group and had a problem getting through? We may have a glitch in our system. While we work it out, please e-mail Erica Lee to request to join the group.

Ahora que mi petición de dinero está completa, quería compartir que tuvimos una gran reunión de la PTA el martes pasado. Sé que el clima estuvo bastante feo, pero por favor tómese un tiempo para leer las notas para escuchar a la Sra. Williams y nuestros maestros de Especiales. Algunas de mis conclusiones clave fueron:
- ¡La Sra. Williams está ansiosa por tener más voluntarios en la escuela! Se anima a los padres y cuidadores a que se ofrezcan como voluntarios en el comedor por tan solo 30 minutos a la semana. O pueden preguntarle al maestro o especialista de su estudiante cómo pueden ayudar. (¡La Sra. - Los padres pueden almorzar con sus hijos en la cafetería.
- ¡FCPS acepta instrumentos usados! FCPS puede arreglarlos y es posible que pueda cancelar la donación en sus impuestos. Comuníquese con la maestra de banda, la Sra. Meltzer, si tiene un instrumento para donar.
Finalmente, cuando vaya de compras al supermercado o al Black Friday de esta semana, considere recoger una tarjeta de regalo en Target, Walmart o Giant para ayudar a las familias de nuestra comunidad con sus compras navideñas. La Sra. Luján recolectará tarjetas de regalo en la oficina hasta el jueves 8 de diciembre.
