Edison Academy Monthly Newsletter Corrected 11/19/2022

Staff Picture

Edison Academy Families,

We have much to be thankful for at Edison Academy and are most grateful for our students. Our Culinary Arts students have been busy making pies and baking bread in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday.  They have made a total of 100 pies and 100 loaves of bread. Our Electrical students are offering their services to our teachers, staff, and students. Please see Electrical Repair Services below for more details. Our students continue to amaze us each day with all of their strengths. Thank you for sharing your students with us.

We are also thankful for our teachers.  Recently, our Academy Support teacher, Adam Wells, was recognized as an employee who shows that FCPS Cares. Adam helped a disabled truck that was blocking the entrance to Edison from Van Dorn Street.  Adam placed cones to warn drivers and stayed with the driver until help arrived.  Thank you Adam!

We are excited to share that Joe Wolfe, Electrical Engineering and Construction teacher, and Edison Academy received an Educate Fairfax grant in the amount of $1,200 for an E-bike Design and Build.  Electrical Construction and Engineering students will explore what goes into designing and building an Electric (E-bike) and what is needed to have it used for private and possibly commercial use.

Just a reminder that Monday, November 21, and Tuesday, November 22, are regular school days.  There is no school on Wednesday, November 23, Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25.

Thanksgiving is a time for reflection for all of our blessings.  Wishing you and your families a safe and joyful holiday with friends and family.

Sincerely,

Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator

Vet Science Grooming

Grooming continues and we are still scheduling dog baths and nail trims! We provide baths, nail trims, ear cleanings and minor trimming (around the feet, face, rear end, sanitary trims). As the year progresses, we may also be able to offer basic haircuts (nothing breed specific). We groom on mostly Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment. Drop off is between 8:10-8:30 a.m. and pick up is between 1:45-2 p.m. If your dog is in need of a haircut, please take them to another grooming facility for the full cut and we would be a happy to do the in-between baths and trims. Cost range is $15-25 depending on type of dog and services needed. Email Karen Nestlerode at kenestlerode@fcps.edu with your dog's information or any questions.

Attendance

Please contact the Edison Academy attendance office if your student will be absent or staying at the base school due to an altered schedule using the on-line attendance form or email EdisonAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu.The student should email their Academy teacher. This is in addition to informing the base school attendance office.
