Fairfax County Youth Survey

The Fairfax County Youth Survey will be administered to 10th and 12th grade students through November 22nd through English class stingers.  This brief survey, a collaborative effort between the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, asks students questions about risky behavior, mental health, physical health, and safety.  Results from the survey are used to determine the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs offered in schools and communities and identify areas of need.  The survey is anonymous, and no individual information is reported.  A copy of the survey is available to parents and/or guardians online hereIf you do not wish for your child to take part in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to your child’s Teacher Advisory teacher no later than November 1 (this is different from the letter), 2022. Letter and Opt-Out Form in English or Spanish.

HUMC Free Tutoring Program

TGFT will remain virtual for the start of the 2022-23 school  year, with sessions being held every Wednesday. Information regarding the program can be found on our website: herndonumc.org/tgft.  As in the past, we offer assistance in all math subjects, chemistry, and physics. We want to help your students be successful this year! Additional information available here

Picture Makeups

This is only for students who have NOT had their picture taken. The deadline for all pictures is December 2nd. They have two options:

  1. You can take the photo yourself- the requirements are that the picture is taken from the shoulders up, have decent lighting and a plain background, and have no filters. We can remove the background to make it match the rest of our photos, but the overall quality might not be the same as the other photos. They can email pictures to jkim12@fcps.edu with the student’s first and last name.
  2. We can take the student’s picture for you- they would have to come to our yearbook class, which is during 5th period, or even during stinger 5, to get their picture taken. We would then do the same steps above.

Holiday Meals Program

Holiday meals are a special time when families come together. Can you help make the holidays special for a local family struggling with food insecurity? Since 2016, Food For Neighbors has been providing holiday meals to students in middle and high schools throughout Fairfax and Loudoun counties. For every $50 donated to the Food For Neighbors Holiday Meals Program, they will provide a $50 grocery store gift card for a local family to purchase a nutritious and delicious meal this season. To donate, visit FFN Holiday Meals Program.

Hunger is an unwelcome guest during the holidays and with your generosity, families throughout our community will experience the joy of gathering around a table together to enjoy a nice meal. Thank you for your generosity!

From the Library

Your student’s Destiny account is their gateway to a wide variety of reading material. FCPS’s library system allows students to put books on hold, renew their books, and checkout ebooks and e-audiobooks. And students can always find research support through their Library course on Schoology.

Are you looking for ways to be involved? The library appreciates parent volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering one or two hours per week, please contact us. No previous library experience is required—we will provide training on shelving returned books, processing new books, and other tasks.

You can reach the HHS Library Team at hhs_library@fcps.edu.
