November 22 News from Sleepy Hollow

November 22, 2022

Dearest Sleepy Hollow Family,

I hope his newsletter finds you in the best of health and in great spirits. Last week was busy and exciting. Many thanks to all who were able to attend the General PTA Meeting at The Willston Center on Thursday and for those who braved the cold to support the PTA Barnes and Noble Night last Friday!  It was truly a joyous event. A special thanks to all who supported the teachers’ wish lists, prepared baked goods, and volunteered at the various stations throughout the bookstore. As they say, “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

Remember this is a short week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. There is NO SCHOOL Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (November 23rd – 25th). From our home to yours, we wish you an amazing Thanksgiving Holiday. May your time with family and friends be that of renewed relationships, new memories, and gratefulness.

~Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance. ~ Eckhart Tolle

~The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time. ~ Douglas Wood

All the best,
Mattie Fallen, Principal

National Family Engagement Month

November is National Family Engagement Month! This month reminds us that families are children's first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers.

Sleepy Hollow Elementary School seeks to provide more opportunities for parents to learn about their children, their schooling, and how to support them at home.  The following brief survey is to find out what would be most helpful to you.

Wow, Barnes & Noble night was so much fun!  Huge thanks to our AMAZING PTA for planning and running this community event – your efforts are very much appreciated!  And thank you to ALL in the community who attended, helped out, or made purchases – this event supports our school’s library and we can’t wait to add fresh new titles into our collection for ALL to enjoy.  An extra shout-out to all who supported the wish lists of the SHES teachers – we have amazingly generous families in our school community and we are so grateful to all the support!  Happy reading!!

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.  Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program.  Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices.  If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for.  Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school prior to Family Life Education instruction.

Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6) ,. FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology.  Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account.  Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library (this location does not have media).  Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library.  Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Program questions may be addressed at your child’s school or by contacting Instructional Services at 571-423-4550 or
