Dear Families,
How wonderful it was to see so many families at two events at Oak Hill this week!! We had over 70 adults and children join us for our Veterans Day breakfast on Monday. Our guests were treated to beautiful music from both our chorus directed by Wendy Peterson and by members of our band led by Teri Davis and Stacey Ochoa. While the entire student body could not be at our breakfast, their video messages, cards and letters filled our hearts. Thank you for each family’s service, sacrifice and dedication to keeping the Oak Hill community safe, the United States of America safe and our World safe.
In addition, we had our first PTA event and it was a HUGE turnout despite the cold rain and chilly evening. Our gym was full of student and parent led booths where artifacts, food, games and stories were shared representing various cultures in the Oak Hill Community. In our café we had over ten student performances that shared aspects of each student’s culture ranging from dancing to singing. The culminating activity was one of our favorites, The Lion Dance! Thank you to all our families and staff for coming out and learning about each other and their families! We will share pictures with you in a special NYC on Friday!
Finally, regardless of whether you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I hope you have a warm place to be where the company that surrounds you is all you need to have a full heart. I am thankful for such caring families at Oak Hill, caring students and a staff who tirelessly cares for our students. Thank you!
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child's learning at Oak Hill! If you have questions or feedback for Mrs. Durso or myself, please fill out this google form.
Sincerely,
Holly DeVore, Principal
Oak Hill's Chorus and Band performed for our Veterans at the breakfast on Monday. Thank you students, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Ochoa for some wonderful music! Thank you to PTA and to Wegmans for their generous contributions to the refreshments. Our guests were also treated to a video of students thanking veterans for their service.
We are hosting our first Principal's Coffee for the school year on Monday, November 21st at 9 am. Picture make-up day is scheduled for Friday, November 18th, between 10:30 and 12:30. If your child did not get their picture taken on the original picture day or you would like a retake, please let your child's teacher know that you would like your child to have their picture re-taken.

Parents are an integral part of fostering creativity in their own children. Children need to be immersed in environments that stimulate ideas and promote risk taking. It is essential that they have a variety of opportunities to think and explore possibilities. One to way to nurture critical thinking skills at home is through the Creative Problem Solving strategy. Learn more about how to implement this strategy at home.
