Book Fair

Nov. 14-18

Hollin Meadows will be having a book fair the week of November 14th-November 18th. Your child will have the opportunity to browse (or purchase) books from Bedford Falls Book Fairs. Please see the schedule that was sent home to all students this week to view the times that individual classes visit the book fair and the times the book fair is open after school for families.

A few changes this year for our book fair.  All book fairs in FCPS now will charge a 6% sales tax to all items purchased. Also, the Bedford Falls company does not provide an E-wallet at this time, but they anticipate adding that feature soon.

If you’d like to volunteer to help or if you have any questions about the book fair, please contact school librarian, Kathy Tucker, at kdtucker@fcps.edu.

Student Survey for the Strategic Plan

By now, you may have heard that FCPS is developing a new Strategic Plan. Here are some reasons why the school division is engaging in this important work.

Our last strategic plan was developed in 2015. Since then, we experienced a pandemic that changed the way we think, a shift in technology that has seen eight new versions of the iPhone, and plans developed for the first manned mission to Mars.

Our students are preparing for careers that don’t exist today. In order to keep pace with these needs, we need to rethink our plans for the future—and how we will best serve our students for this new era. Employees, parents/caregivers, students, and our FCPS community must share the same purpose in order to recognize how we can move forward together. This week, our students in Grades 3-6 will share their input in a short survey.

We are all much more motivated, and successful, when we share clear end goals. Learn more on our Strategic Plan webpage.

  • We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
  • We know it’s tempting to extend your vacation by a few days on either side of the holiday.  However, this holiday season, the best gift you can give your child is a good education. And the best place to get that education is in school. Every day. On time.
