Principal's Message

Dear Mustang Families-

We had a VERY exciting week at South County Middle School (even though it was an oddly interrupted 3 days of school)! On Wednesday, we hosted a community breakfast for all military connected Mustangs, with over 100 attendees. We take pride in our service to the military community and strive to make the transition of students as smooth as possible. We outlined each of the initiatives that we already do for military families and solicited feedback on ways that we can improve. If you were unable to attend, I invite you to submit feedback as we endeavor to obtain the Purple Star Designation using this LINK.

On Wednesday, I marveled at the talented cast and crew at the opening performance of Romeo and Winifred. The play was hilarious and definitely worth seeing! Luckily, the show will run for the remainder of this week (Friday and Saturday). Thank you to our dedicated theater arts teacher Larry McCormick for all his hard work on the show.

Thursday was also a busy day. We celebrated over 100 students that completed the 3x4 challenge (reading at least 3 books during the 4 week month of October). Those students were rewarded with a donut party during the Learning Seminar with a TON of cool door-prizes provided by our After School Programs and PTSO including hats, beanies, gift cards, and t-shirts. Literacy is essential to the educational programming at SCMS and it’s great to incentivize it for students. Also on Thursday, report cards (and honor roll letters) were distributed to students during 7th period class. Be sure to check your student’s backpack for their report cards.

Lastly, Friday November 11 is a student holiday in remembrance of Veteran’s Day. I hope that all students have a restful and rejuvenating three-day weekend. Please set aside a few minutes to reflect on, and appreciate the service that all veterans have given. Even though students will not be in school, Mustang staff will participate in a School Planning Day with the focus of digging deeper into Portrait of a Graduate Skills.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and please reach out with any questions.
