Franklin MS Weekly Update - November 11

Franklin Families and Students,

This week we honored and recognized our veterans and the role of the military in our country. During the past few days, our students engaged in reflective discussions and activities about the importance of honoring our veterans and what Veterans Day means to them. On behalf of the Franklin Middle School students and staff, we would like to express our gratitude to all of the men and women, and their families, who have served our nation as members of the United States Armed Forces.

To continue with the theme of gratitude, I would also like to recognize the work of our school psychologist, Rebekah Haile, as we wrap up National School Psychology Week. We are so grateful for the work she does to support our students and families each day at Franklin MS.

I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the opportunity for our school community to support those that are in need of a helping hand. The Franklin PTA is taking the lead on collecting donations of gift cards to help FMS families in need during the winter holidays. Please consider a donation of any amount in a regular or electronic gift card. You may consider stores like Walmart, Target, Amazon, Kohls, and Burlington that offer a variety of shopping options. If interested, please consider making a contribution by November 28.

Please email E-gift cards to our Franklin Middle School social worker, Elyse Brunais. Gift cards may also be mailed, dropped off in our main office or mailed directly to Ms. Brunias at our school address. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Franklin Middle School PTA President, Heather Tomasek, Franklin Middle School social worker Elyse Brunais, or our Family Liaison, Janet McFadden (Spanish speaking). Thank you for supporting our community!

Best wishes to all of our FMS families for an enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Dr. Ahn is our Behavior Intervention Teacher (BIT) at Franklin MS and will be presenting on ways families can support their children at home. With the increase of challenging behaviors, this session will introduce families to the basics of behavior and provide strategies on how to develop structure, teach routines, and respond to behaviors in the home. A Zoom link will be sent the day of the event, and the session will be recorded for those who are unable to attend.

Wellness Screening - 7th Grade

As a reminder to 7th grade families, FMS Student Services is conducting an ACT Wellness Screening on November 15 and 16 during Health/PE classes as part of the Signs of Suicide (SOS) ® Prevention Program for all 7th grade students. The program has proven to be successful at increasing help-seeking behaviors by students concerned about themselves or a friend.

We encourage you to visit www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent for information on warning signs for depression, suicide, useful resources, and some of the key messages students will learn. Additionally, this parent information video provides key information about the SOS program itself. Contact your child's counselor for any questions and if you wish to opt your child out, please make sure you have completed the opt out form.
