Message from Dr. Floyd
Hello Woodson Community,
This odd week started off with a fantastic rebirth of Cav Congress on Monday during 3rd period. Continuing important yet non-essential activities fell out of consistency during COVID, but this week we brought back a student favorite in Cav Congress.
As the name suggests, we invite representatives from each club, activity, program and sport to share their voice and participate in problem solving sessions throughout the year. What do the kids want to change or fix at Woodson? What do they love and want to keep and what do they need more explanation of why we do what we do.
Kudos to Ms. Rotella and Mr. Smith for rejuvenating this program. We look forward to the next session.
Another program rebuilt this year is our Parent Advisory Council. Last week parents joined administrators to review portions of the Family Engagement Survey. Input and suggestions will be shared out over the next month or so. I want to express a huge thank you to those who engaged in this important work and we look forward to the January conversation!
Thank you to our PTSO for sponsoring staff lunch for our School Planning Day today. We are so grateful for this partnership and our staff thoroughly enjoyed this treat.
Looking for something to do this weekend? Come see the play One Man, Two Guvnors tonight and tomorrow at 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm. And good luck to our Cross Country runners at the state competition tomorrow.
Thank you to our active and retired military staff and families on this Veteran’s day. Your service to our country is valued and appreciated.
Have a great weekend,
Dr. Floyd Principal

1. 1st Quarter Report Cards Distributed
Report cards for 1st Quarter were distributed to students during 7th period on Thursday, November 10th.
If your student has an off-campus waiver or Academy class for 7th period, their report card is in the Student Services office for pickup.
2. Last Weekend for Woodson Drama Fall Play
Tonight and tomorrow are the last performances of the fast-paced hilarious farce One Man, Two Guvnors.
This play features British accents, 60’s style rock and roll, and an attack with a cricket bat! Who could ask for anything more!?
If you are looking for a fast paced comedy and a fun night out, full of irreverent comedy, you’ve found the right show! NOTE: This play may not be considered appropriate for students under 13 - contains mild language, slapstick violence and mild suggestive themes.
This performance features a "pay what you can" sliding scale ticket option, ranging from $5-$30. Please pick the price that works best for you. This aligns with our goal to be as equitable as possible and create art that is accessible by all. Tickets can be purchased here! Come out and support the nearly 100 students involved in this production!
NOTE: ALL proceeds from the show go to the WTW Drama department. This helps to fund shows, supplies, special workshops, and education events throughout the year for Woodson Theatre students. If you are a household that would like to see the show and cannot afford the $5 ticket option, please reach out to the WTW Drama Theatre Director, Mr. Rushing, at csrushing@fcps.edu

8. Help Us Thank Woodson Teachers and Staff
The PTSO invites all Woodson families to celebrate and recognize our wonderful teachers and staff this holiday season.
High School isn’t the same as elementary school where we had organized gift-giving and room parents. Please take time throughout the school year, and especially now in the holiday season, to recognize and thank the educators and support professionals that work with our children. Simple notes of appreciation, emails of gratitude and letters in support of teachers, counselors, principal, and/or support staff have enormous, meaningful impact.
Additionally, Woodson PTSO is collecting gift cards to raffle at the Annual Holiday Party for the Teachers and Staff on Monday, December 12th. Parents, families and students are invited to donate gift cards; please send donated gift cards to the front office in an envelope addressed to “Attn: Celeste Jones, Holiday Party Raffle Prizes.”
We kindly ask that we receive all donations by Wednesday, December 7th. Please contact Celeste Jones at cbjones@fcps.edu for more information.

10. Attendance Procedures
Attendance is critical to student success in the classroom.
If your student will be absent from school, a parent/guardian must notify the attendance office. Below is a quick guide for reporting all-day absences, late arrivals, and early check-outs from school.
11. How does FCPS Create the School Calendar?
In an annual planning process, Fairfax County Public Schools uses input from the community to develop the calendar for the following year. Our framework for creating the calendar is available online to ensure transparency, as we work to build a calendar that is inclusive and equitable.
Watch your email for a feedback form, which will be shared with parents, staff, and middle and high school students.
Students share their ideas during Cav Congress.

Does your child need homework help or feedback on their writing? How about a practice quiz to get ready for a test? Tutor.com is open to FCPS students in all grades, on-demand, 24/7, at no cost to families. Learn more.
