Glasgow MS Parents and Community:

Greetings! This weekend was spent relaxing with my family! I hope each of you are doing well. This past Friday, we had a Special Education Principal Coffee for our community, please see the recording here. We will have other parent coffees monthly! This week our campus, along with Justice HS, underwent our 5 year evaluation process for our International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) programs. I’d like to publicly thank our staff, students, parents, and district personnel who made this process a successful one!  Below are a few highlights from the visit:

Strengths:

  • Staff passion for creating an inclusive environment with a coherent curriculum
  •  Evidence of student choice and opportunities for reflection
  • Stability and commitment to breaking down barriers for student learning
  • Student primary feedback:  they like their teachers and the diversity of the schools

Areas of Growth:

  • Continue work involving horizontal and vertical articulation within and between the schools
  • Increase explicit communication with all stakeholders about the opportunities within an IB school/pyramid

We are committed to continuing the expansion and evolution of IB Programs in the Justice Pyramid! Middle school students who have an aptitude and passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) are encouraged to apply for admission to the Class of 2027 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST).

Kiss and Ride

We have many families who choose to drop off and pick up students through the kiss and ride line.  In order to keep the flow of traffic moving along and to maintain safety, we ask that you pull your cars up and stop at the locations our monitors direct to before allowing your child to exit your vehicle.  Please be sure students are ready to exit cars with all of their things out of car doors that exit onto the sidewalk.  Please wait for the car in front of you to pull forward before you begin to depart.   We also ask that you refrain from parking in the kiss and ride line or double parking in the lane.  If you need to enter the building, please find a spot to park in our lot.  The mornings are much darker now and we want to be sure that we are all doing our part to keep everyone safe.  Thank you so much for your cooperation.

November Is Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also a time to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges they have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.

Why Does FCPS Need a New Strategic Plan?

By now, you may have heard that FCPS is developing a new Strategic Plan. Here are some reasons why the school division is engaging in this important work.

Our last strategic plan was developed in 2015. Since then, we experienced a pandemic that changed the way we think, a shift in technology that has seen eight new versions of the iPhone, and plans developed for the first manned mission to Mars.

Our students are preparing for careers that don’t exist today. In order to keep pace with these needs, we need to rethink our plans for the future—and how we will best serve our students for this new era. Employees, parents/caregivers, students, and our FCPS community must share the same purpose in order to recognize how we can move forward together.

We are all much more motivated, and successful, when we share clear end goals. Learn more on our Strategic Plan webpage

In an annual planning process, Fairfax County Public Schools uses input from the community to develop the calendar for the following year. Our framework for creating the calendar is available online to ensure transparency, as we work to build a calendar that is inclusive and equitable. Watch your email for a feedback form, which will be shared with parents, staff, and middle and high school students.
