Watch D.O.G.S.
Our Watch D.O.G.S. program is up and running! Our first dad Mr. Myers had a full day of fun and work at Silverbrook. Kudos to our own Mr. DeShazer for spearheading this worthwhile program. Thank you, dads, for supporting our school!
Veterans Day Program
The staff and students at Silverbrook will host our very first Veterans Day program on November 10, 2022. Parents are invited to attend, and our active duty military personnel are free to wear their uniform. Below are the classes and grades that will participate at specific times:
9:15 PK-Kindergarten (Delgado and Feil), First, Fourth, and Sixth Grades
10:45 Kindergarten (Aguiluz and Newman) Second, Third, and Fifth Grades
We need your help in supporting our program, please dress your student in the following color based on their grade level on November 10th.
PK-K 1st and 2nd grade students wear a red shirt and blue jeans
3rd and 4th grade students wear a white shirt and blue jeans
5th and 6th grade students wear a blue shirt and blue jeans
We have many family members who are planning to attend the program. We ask that you select one program to attend so that we can accommodate as many parents as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.
Staying Healthy During the Cold/Flu Season
Although the community level of COVID-19 in Fairfax County is currently low, cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses are on the rise. It continues to be important to wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, monitor your health daily, and stay home if you are sick. For more tips, visit our Return to School website.
- Why Does FCPS Need a New Strategic Plan?
By now, you may have heard that FCPS is developing a new Strategic Plan. Here are some reasons why the school division is engaging in this important work. Our last strategic plan was developed in 2015. Since then, we experienced a pandemic that changed the way we think, a shift in technology that has seen eight new versions of the iPhone, and plans developed for the first manned mission to Mars.
Our students are preparing for careers that don’t exist today. In order to keep pace with these needs, we need to rethink our plans for the future—and how we will best serve our students in this new era. Employees, parents/caregivers, students, and our FCPS community must share the same purpose to recognize how we can move forward together.
We are all much more motivated, and successful, when we share clear end goals. Learn more on our Strategic Plan webpage.
South County High School Game Expectations
Math
Enjoy the classic TV show “Countdown” at home!
You can play the digital version here or create a hands-on experience with just a few materials.
How to create and play:
Step 1: Set out 4 large number cards (25, 50, 75, and 100) face down and mixed up.
Step 2: Do the same with the 1 – 10 cards, making sure you have at least 2 cards for each number.
Step 3: Players take turns to select number cards from either pile until there are 6 cards laid out altogether.
Step 4: Someone who is playing the game needs to generate a 3-digit number. This can be done by throwing dice or selecting cards from the leftover cards.
Step 5: Once the number has been generated, turn over the six cards and players must try and get to that total using any of the six number cards using any of the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Tips:
- Each card can only be used once and the winner is the first person to reach the total or the player who is closest after a set length of time.
- The game can be adapted for younger children, by choosing the numbers on the cards carefully and having them aim to reach a 2-digit number, rather than a 3-digit number.
