Support Woodson families this Thanksgiving – Donate by November 17th
There are many families in our Woodson community struggling with hunger and food insecurity this year. At the request of school counselors, the PTSO is hosting a Thanksgiving Donation Drive to provide families with grocery gift cards.
Donations are being collected now through Thursday, November 17th.
There are two ways you can contribute:
- Donate directly to the PTSO PayPal food drive account here
- Purchase $10-$50 gift cards to local grocery stores (Safeway, Giant, Walmart), and drop them off with Gina D’Angelo or Jackie O’Brien in the Woodson front office
Our school counselors will distribute the collections to Woodson families in need. Together we can ensure that all of our families have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Your Voice is Needed: FCPS Strategic Planning
Fairfax County Public Schools launched the engagement phase for developing our brand new Strategic Plan 2023-2028.
Superintendent Michelle Reid has heard from many of you about your hopes and aspirations for our students. That feedback will become part of our proactive strategic plan that will serve as our North Star—or guide—for the future.
The entire FCPS community is invited to engage in building our shared future. This includes hearing from parents and caregivers, students, and broader community, as well as surveying students in grades three and above. You will have an opportunity to have your voice heard in one of many sessions (both in-person and virtual) during November and December. We encourage you to join in this journey by actively participating in the conversation.
The goal is to have the final strategic plan by June 2023. For a more detailed overview, visit FCPS’ Strategic Planning 2023 webpage.
Rainbow Fentanyl Warning
The DEA has issued a public warning educating the community about rainbow fentanyl. These particular pills are targeted to youth and young adults with its colorful candy-like appearance making them look harmless. Rainbow Fentanyl resembles playground chalk before it is pressed into pills.
The trend is to crush the pills, smoke it off of a piece of aluminum foil, with the theory that it is “safer” than snorting. When burned, it often gives off a distinct odor of burned rubber. While we have not seen Rainbow Fentanyl yet, Perc 30’s or Blues are popular among adolescents and young adults in Fairfax County and the surrounding areas. Fentanyl is also found in counterfeit prescription pills, cocaine, Xanax, and other licit and illicit drugs.
The Medical Examiner from the Virginia Department of Health recently released its 1st quarter data for 2022 stating 483 people have died from fatal fentanyl overdoses in the state. For Fairfax County data and additional information on youth substance use, please see the Fairfax County Youth Substance Trends webinar.
Please see Woodson admin or counselors for any assistance you may need! We are here for our community and want to keep everyone SAFE!
FCPS COVID Protocol
FCPS will continue to follow the guidance of national, state, and local health experts when determining the layered prevention strategies that are needed to keep our schools safe and open for learning. It is important that we all work together towards this goal.
Detailed information can be found in the Health and Safety Guidance Document.
Staying Home When Sick
FCPS continues to require families to review the Daily Health Screening before sending students to school. The 5 Day Isolation Period will also continue for COVID positive students and staff.
