We have had a great start to the 2nd quarter and continue to maximize every minute through providing rich learning experiences for our students. Visit our Twitter page to see what we've been up to.
Next week brings two student holidays. Students will have off on Tuesday for Election Day and Friday for Veterans Day.
The PTA is still seeking donations and volunteers for their annual Election Day bake sale. It is a fun and festive day and a great way to see friends and neighbors heading to the polls at Woodburn. Please sign up to contribute baked goods here.

Election Day and Veterans Day
Election Day and Veterans Day are student holidays. Students will not have school next Tuesday, November 8 and Friday, November 11.
Recognizing Our Veterans
We want to honor Veterans within our community. If you have a Veteran in your family, we invite you to share a photo with us. These photos will be shared on our morning news show. Please send any photos to Kelley Dauberman at krdauberman@fcps.edu. We thank all Veterans for their service and look forward to recognizing their contributions as a school.
Educate Fairfax Grant
Woodburn is a recipient of an Educate Fairfax Grant. Lauren Imwold, 3rd grade teacher, submitted a grant proposal requesting funds for a FutureMakers learning experience for our upper grade students. Because of her efforts, our school has received $2000 to provide hands-on learning experiences for our students. Each FutureMakers experience "integrates engineering, design challenges, imaginative play and robust components that are made for learners to create and keep." PTA Meeting on November 10
Our next PTA meeting will be held virtually on November 10 at 7pm. Families will have the opportunity to learn more about student progress reports and FCPS' grading system. A meeting link will be sent next week. Spanish translation will be provided.
Family Life Education Information
Parent/Guardian Preview Night
Parents are invited to attend the FLE Information Parent/Guardian Preview Night on November 16, 2022 from 5:00-6:00 pm at Woodburn. If you are unable to make it at this time and would like more information, please reach out to Ms. Watson at evwatson@fcps.edu.
Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Family Life Education instruction which will be taking place at Woodburn December 12 - December 16.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate health instruction. Opt out forms were sent home in our first day packets in August. Please contact the office if you would like a new form.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for families to view online in Schoology.
Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons and media that is not streamed online are available for review at your child’s school library. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Outstanding Employee Awards
It’s that time of year again!
Nominations are now open for the Outstanding Employee Awards! To submit a nomination for a Woodburn staff member please complete the nomination through the Google form links listed below. You may nominate one employee at our school or multiple employees (one individual may only nominate one employee per category).
Please be prepared to write a detailed paragraph about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. The categories are:
Outstanding Teacher (includes librarian- at least 3 years experience)
Outstanding Principal
Outstanding Leader (Assistant Principal)
Outstanding New Teacher (includes librarian- 3 years or less)
Outstanding Professional Employee (SBTS, TSS, instructional coach, psychologist, social worker, school counselor, resource teachers)
Outstanding Operational Employee (Administrative and office staff, custodial staff, food service staff, IA’s, parent liaison)
The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, November, 18th.

Election Day Bake Sale, November 8th
Calling all bakers and foodies! The annual Woodburn Elementary Election Day Bake Sale is happening Tuesday, November 8th. The bake sale will be held in the parking lot of the school from 7am-1pm. We are seeking your donations of both homemade or store-bought baked goods as well as a couple volunteers to do sales. It's a super fun and festive day and a great way to see friends and neighbors heading to the polls at Woodburn. Please sign up to contribute baked goods here!

Is your child interested in connecting with new friends this year? The Family Directory is now available in the Parent All Schoology course. With family privacy in mind, only Woodburn parents with 2022-23 access to Schoology will be able to see this file, and any families who have opted out of sharing their contact information will not be listed. Visit the FCPS Schoology Parent/Guardian webpage for additional information and resources about accessing our Woodburn Parent Course.

Firefighters and Friends to the Rescue
Throughout the year, we are able to support many student needs through the generous donations from a non-profit organization called Firefighters and Friends to the Rescue. They provide support with school supplies, backpacks, coats, toys and other items. In order to continue to provide such support to the community, they are asking for support with monetary donations.
