Fairfax County Youth Survey

This is a reminder that 8th graders will be completing the Fairfax County Youth Survey on November 9th and 10th during their PE classes. The Fairfax County Youth Survey is a comprehensive, anonymous, and voluntary survey given each year to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 that examines behaviors, experiences and other factors that influence the health and well-being of Fairfax County's youth. The results provide a snapshot of the county's youth and serve as a barometer of the community's effectiveness in fostering healthy choices in young people. Complete the attached form below by November 7, 2022 if you do not wish for your child to participate.

Opportunity for Students to Help Inform FCPS’ Future

plan

You may have heard FCPS is developing a Strategic Plan that will serve as the school division’s roadmap for the future. We encourage every parent/caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work.

The first engagement opportunity will be an optional survey, which will be open to students in grades 3-12. Knowing what is important to students will be very helpful to Dr. Reid, as she leads the planning of FCPS’ future. All schools, including ours, will schedule a date and time during the school day to administer the survey in November.  Our school will issue the strategic planning survey on November 14th through advisory

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

FCPS will be asking ALL families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.

World Language Credit Exam

The World Language Credit Exam (WLCE) will be taking place after school on Thursday, November 10, 2022.  Check-in begins at 2:30 p.m. Students must bring their printed exam confirmation and student ID. Students will receive a copy of their printed confirmation the morning of the exam. Students may bring their own pencils if they wish. Cell phones are permitted but must be powered off while in the testing location. Students may bring backpacks and bags into the exam room. They must be left at the entrance to the exam room and retrieved by the students when exiting the exam. Students may not bring any books, dictionaries, notes, other resources, or other materials into the exam room, this includes their own paper. Both lined paper and scratch paper will be provided.

Bus Notes

Students wishing to ride a bus home with another student must present a handwritten note (emailed notes will NOT be accepted) from the parent of each student  giving permission, notes should include student’s name(s), date, and the bus number. These notes must be brought to the front office at the beginning of school. The main office will then issue a bus pass.

FLE Feedback

Feedback Welcome on Proposed Family Life Education Changes

The Fairfax County School Board is reviewing recommended changes to the Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum and invites public feedback as part of the review process. In May 2022, the Family Life Education Curriculum Advisory Committee (FLECAC) presented recommended curriculum changes, to go into effect for the 2023-24 school year. Those changes include adopting gender-combined instruction, and exploring instruction of gender identity, recommended media, and other instructional changes.

The recommendations reflect leading education and child development research and expert advice. According to research cited in the recommendations, these changes will create a more inclusive learning environment, result in higher academic achievement for students, and improve school climate.

Public feedback will be shared with FLECAC and the School Board. FCPS staff and the School Board will consider all feedback but are unable to reply to individuals.

Learn more about the recommended changes on our website. The public feedback form will be available on our website and will be open October 31 through December 1.
