Hello Wolftrap Community!

Dr. Maggie Grove

We are excited this week to welcome Veterans and their families to Wolftrap for our first assembly to honor Veteran’s Day in two years.

Classrooms are spotlighting Portrait of a Graduate (POG) skills as they begin the 2nd quarter of the year. Thank you to all of our parents and community members for your support of a successful 1st quarter of learning!

Warmly,
Dr. Maggie Grove, Principal

Administration Updates

Parent Lunch in Cafeteria

Parents, if you are interested in having lunch in the cafeteria with your student, you must sign in at the front office. We are happy to welcome parents for this purpose. Of course, we must have enough space for students to eat at tables. If we find that we have more parents than we can accommodate in the cafeteria, we will institute a sign in link. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we return to this much loved practice, and navigate interest level.

Strategic Plan Student Survey

The opt out window has closed. Students in grades 3-6 will be taking their strategic plan survey on November 14th. Please remember that you can view the survey on the FCPS website.

Feedback Welcome on Proposed Family Life Education Changes

The Fairfax County School Board is reviewing recommended changes to the Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum and invites public feedback as part of the review process. Public feedback will be shared with FLECAC and the School Board. FCPS staff and the School Board will consider all feedback but are unable to reply to individuals. Learn more about the recommended changes on FCPS website. The public feedback form will be available on our website and will be open October 31 through December 1.

Thank you, Veterans

Don’t forget to come and honor our veterans on November 10th at 9:00am. Kindergarten and First graders will be live streaming the event in their rooms. However, if a student in those grades would like to welcome a veteran from their family, they may accompany them to the assembly.

Posters will be on display in the cafeteria through the first week in December. Thank you for your service, Veterans!

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Update

TA November

A huge thank you to all the Fifth Grade parents who contributed to last month's teacher appreciation initiative -- a luncheon catered by Chop't!

For November, the First Grade will sponsor a breakfast. If you would like to contribute, please click here to do so by November 16th. Thanksgiving Food Drive

cornu

Wolftrap Gives Back

The holidays are an excellent time to reflect and be thankful for what we have. This year we have coordinated a Thanksgiving food drive for families in the Vienna area. We certainly understand that not all families may choose to participate, but we are extremely grateful for your support if you are able to contribute!

We will be filling grocery bags with one of each item. Donations can be brought into school through November 21st, and students will place them in a box outside each classroom. If you are interested in also contributing a $10 gift card to Giant or Target, those can be submitted to the main office. Each grade level has an item to collect:

  • Kindergarten - gravy mix packets/cans of chicken or vegetable broth
  • First Grade – Bisquick (bottle uses water only)
  • Second Grade - Mac and Cheese (containers that use water only)
  • Third Grade - instant mashed potatoes
  • Fourth Grade – boxed stuffing
  • Fifth Grade - canned green beans
  • Sixth Grade – applesauce (plastic containers)

Help us with Artist in the Making!

Artist in the Making

Artist in the Making (AIM) is a popular PTA-led program that brings parents into each classroom to work with students for a one-hour session during the school day to introduce students to the work of various artists.

Interested in helping with AIM?

Join the program!! No artistic skills or prior experience needed! Interested? Let us know, fill out our Google Form to get involved.

Safety Update

Several years ago, a Wolftrap student was hit by a parent parking on the corner of St. Roman and Talisman. Drivers cannot see children walking and biking from St. Roman Drive around parked cars.

Fairfax County recommends parking tickets for violating the following 3 items. However, we can protect our kids without parking tickets! Please leave space:

-- 10 feet from driveways
-- 30 feet from stop signs
-- 20 feet from intersections

Please tell babysitters or grandparents who might drive or park on Talisman Drive, too.

Red lines = NO PARKING
at drop-off and pick-up,
even for a moment!
