Weekly Principal Message - Oct. 30, 2022

costumeday

Parents and Families,

First quarter has come to an end! Thank you to our Stone PTSA who prepared a sweet treat for all the students as they left the building on Friday afternoon. The students were thrilled to get their weekend goodie bag and I was thrilled to pass them out! One student shared “that is the coolest thing a Principal has ever done for me”. THANK YOU PTSA!

We will start the 2nd quarter on Tuesday, November 1. The quarters go by quickly so please remind your students to stay on top of assignments throughout the quarter by checking SIS and communicating with their teachers. If they need academic support, it is available every Tuesday afternoon.

This quarter the building was full of engagement and learning. We had fun with our spirit weeks, but time in the classrooms was spent learning things such as, the importance of safety goggles, how to make predictions, the importance of a plot, the western frontier and farming, voting and elections, and scientific notation. I hosted my first Coffee and Conversations with the Principal. Thank you to all who could participate. I plan to host one every quarter and the next one will be in the evening or virtually so that we can have more participation. Additionally, Stone will plan for a quarterly community event to promote families getting to know each other and learn from one another. Our first community event will be our Bingo Night on November 17th at 6:30pm. We hope to see you there! Please visit our website to stay up to date with all the events for students and families.

As I stated in my coffee on Friday, I cannot do this job alone. I need partners in the community, school and home. It has been shared with me that there are a lot of students gathering at the Giant/Starbucks shopping center.  Most of the students are there to simply chat with friends or treat themselves to a snack. However, some students are NOT making good decisions. When others make poor decisions around you it can be hard to make a good decision for yourself or avoid problems. Recently, the police were called to the shopping center to respond to student behaviors. I ask that parents/caregivers please talk with your students. We want to prevent things from happening as much as possible.

A reminder there is no school on Monday, as we have teacher workday. I hope you and your families are able to enjoy the weekend.

Thank you for your continued partnership and I look forward to a wonderful second quarter.

Sincerely,

Sonya Williams

Stone Pantry

Stone Middle School is starting a food and clothing pantry for families in need in collaboration with our local business partners, Erin Peterson Foundation & Grace Covenant Church. In order to operate this pantry we need donations; so we established an Amazon wish list for anyone who would like to donate needed items to the pantry.  This wish list can be found at,

Thank you in advance for any donations to our efforts.

Stock the Teacher Lounge

Additionally, our teachers at Stone work really hard providing opportunities for learning for the students. We love to reward our teachers with treats as much as possible so the same Amazon wish list has items to help us stock the teacher's lounges with various treats throughout the school year.

If you are viewing the wish list, some items are marked “for pantry” and some items are marked “for teacher’s lounge” and a couple of items are marked “for teacher’s lounge and pantry”.
