Greetings Edison Academy Families,
It is hard to believe that this Friday, October 28, marks the end of the first quarter. There will be a two hour early release for students on this date. Please note that Monday, November 1, is a student holiday and there is no school for students.
We have had a successful first quarter and have lots to celebrate. Our upcoming Student of the Quarter award winners will be announced in our November newsletter.
We will continue sending you a monthly newsletter to share important information and good news.
Sincerely,
Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator

At Edison High School, we believe in a grading practice which fosters a growth mindset; therefore, we have implemented standards-based grading. We utilize a 4.0 grade scale in conjunction with a rolling gradebook. This practice informs all stakeholders of the essential standards students learn in each subject area at a particular grade level. It is designed to give students, teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians a better understanding of strengths and areas of growth for that student, so they may offer support. Standards Based practices include:
- A grading and reporting practice to clearly communicate student progress on course standards
- Students are provided feedback on practice in order to prepare for the assessment which is calculated at 5%.
- Grades directly assessing a standard are weighted at 95%.
- The highest level of learning is recorded.
For more information, please review our grading and reporting guide posted on our website.
Expand your spirit wear collection by purchasing some Edison Academy gear. Please order at this link. Deadline to order has been extended.
We are in our second week of grooming and are still scheduling dog baths and nail trims! We provide baths, nail trims, ear cleanings and minor trimming (around the feet, face, rear end, sanitary trims). As the year progresses, we may also be able to offer basic haircuts (nothing breed specific). We groom on mostly Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment. Drop off is between 8:10-8:30 a.m. and pick up is between 1:45-2 p.m. If your dog is in need of a haircut, please take them to another grooming facility for the full cut and we would be a happy to do the in-between baths and trims. Cost range is $15-25 depending on type of dog and services needed. Email Karen Nestlerode at kenestlerode@fcps.edu with your dog's information or any questions.
Please contact the Edison Academy attendance office if your student will be absent or staying at the base school due to an altered schedule using the on-line attendance form or email EdisonAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu.The student should email their Academy teacher. This is in addition to informing the base school attendance office.
