Check out what is happening at Orange Hunt this week: A special thanks to some of our 4th grade students from Frau Lensink' s class.  They took some time to clean up the grounds around Orange Hunt.  We love that people like to use our grounds to connect and play.  Please encourage those your see to throw things away or recycle.  We are working on getting recycling bins for outside.  They should be coming soon!

Virginia Purple Star School - Awarded to Orange Hunt ES!

Virginia has 27 military installations and is home to nearly 120,000 active duty and reserve members. Virginia also has some of the best school districts in the country. Julie P. Shepard is a parent, Navy spouse of 24 years and PTA military family liaison in Fairfax County. She’s been instrumental in helping other military parents navigate schools in Northern Virginia.

To qualify for a Purple Star, schools must have a trained staff member as a primary point of contact for military families and students who also serves as a liaison between the school and local military communities. Schools must also demonstrate their commitment to meeting the needs of military students by providing resources and programming on issues important to military families, such as transitions and academic planning.

Purple Star schools retain the designation for three years before being required to reapply.  We are so excited to have this designation and honor!!!

Veterans Day Volunteer Sign UP (November 10th this year)

Veterans Day is fast approaching. We are excited to host another day of jam-packed activities for the students this year. This year we are operating stations around the school focused on celebrating while learning about Veterans Day. One of the stations will be highlighting all the unique and diverse occupations in the military. If you are a veteran or active duty service member (grandparent and extended family included)  and are willing to play along, we’d love to have you participate!

Our station is called Guess the Job – Two Truths and a Lie. Volunteers would tell the students groups two truths about their job in the service and one lie. The students will have to guess the lie and occupation.  Volunteers would only have to talk for a few minutes to classes about their job while serving in the military.  There are many slots to sign up for, please feel free to sign up for more than one.

If you have questions, please contact Stacy Huisman – OHES Family Liaison at dshuisman@fcps.edu.

Federal Impact Aid Form

If you received a Federal Impact Aid Form from us, don’t forget to turn it in. If you have specific questions about the program, please contact Stacy Huisman, OHES Family Liaison at dshuisman@fcps.edu

The federal presence in our area and the significant tax exemptions available to federally connected personnel, businesses, and agencies has qualified Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) to be eligible for federal Impact Aid grants.

Impact Aid programs and grants are designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget and are critical to ensuring that all children in FCPS receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.

FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources.  On October 18, the survey will be distributed to all FCPS families.

2022 Parent Involvement Survey

All parents of school-aged children and youth with disabilities who receive special education services in Virginia are encouraged to complete the Virginia Department of Education’s annual Parent Involvement Survey. The survey will remain open through December 16, 2022.

If you have questions concerning this survey, please contact Chiquita Seaborne, Family Engagement Specialist/Special Projects Coordinator, via telephone at (804) 225-3898 or via email, at Chiquita.Seaborne@doe.virginia.gov.
