Principal's Message

Hello Cameron Families, I hope this message finds you and your family in the best of spirits and health. We’ve had a busy and productive week at Cameron. Two author’s joined us, James Riley and Ann Marie Pace. The students enjoyed hearing about the authors’ writing process and their storybook characters. We thank our literacy team for coordinating the author visit.

amanda snyder

We have more good news! This week Cameron’s new permanent Assistant Principal, Amanda Snyder, joined the Cameron Community. We are excited to have Ms. Snyder!  We are also very grateful to have had Mrs. Bennink, the Interim Assistant Principal, with us since the beginning of the school year. Mrs. Bennink’s last day will be October 28.

Diwali

We also wish all who celebrate Diwali a joyous festival of lights!  Monday, October 24, 2022 is a FCPS Holiday recognizing Diwali. There is no school for students or teachers. Finally, we are approaching the end of the first quarter of learning in FCPS. Friday, October 28 is a two-hour early release day. Students will dismiss at 2:00. Monday, October 31, there is no school for students. Teachers will have a workday to prepare the student progress reports for the end of the quarter and continue to plan for the new quarter.

Take good care,

Linda Ferguson

Interim Principal

“School Bus Drivers are the people who transport children to their future.”

Dear families,

We are celebrating this week the School Bus Awareness. Most drivers are only told about the rules for passing a stopped school bus with flashing red lights only when they learn to drive – often many years ago. We would like to request the help of the families in reminding you of school bus safety practices when school buses are stopped with their yellow or red lights flashing.

  1. When you see a school bus, assume children will be around and take extra care – leave lots of space around the bus.
  2. When the bus turns on the flashing yellow lights – this means it is about to stop either at a railroad crossing or to pick up kids. Slow down and prepare to stop.
  3. When the bus turns on the flashing red lights – this means STOP in BOTH directions. Never pass a school bus with flashing red lights in either direction. Stop well back from the bus. If you have any doubt what to do – STOP.
  4. When the bus turns on the flashing red lights and there is a physical division/divided road of 4 ways - this means STOP in ONE direction only, the traffic fallowing the bus only.

Opportunity for Students to Help Inform FCPS’ Future

You may have heard FCPS is developing a Strategic Plan that will serve as the school division’s roadmap for the future. We encourage every parent/caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work.

The first engagement opportunity will be an optional survey, which will be open to students in grades 3-12. Knowing what is important to students will be very helpful to Dr. Reid, as she leads the planning of FCPS’ future. All schools, including ours, will schedule a date and time during the school day to administer the survey between November 2-18. If you would prefer that your child not participate, you may opt your child out of taking the survey. Please visit FCPS’ website for more information
