NEW! AAP Universal Screener Referral for Level IV Services
The Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Office has two screening pathways for full-time (Level IV) Advanced Academic Program services in Fairfax County:
- Grade 2 Universal Screener Referral (formerly Second Grade Screening Pool)
- Family and Staff Referrals
The Grade 2 universal screener uses universal testing data from the NNAT and CogAT to capture a top percentage of scores in grade 2 at each school. This allows individual schools to identify students who may require advanced differentiation based on one of many measures that are to be considered. This referral pathway is also one way to ensure that a student whose family may not yet be familiar with FCPS AAP and the referral process is not missed for consideration. Please note that test scores are not weighted in the holistic process and do not give a complete picture of a student profile.
The Grade 2 universal screener referral is not a determination of eligibility. Multiple pieces of data must be considered in eligibility decision processes (Virginia Department of Education Regulations Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students). Please go to the Advanced Academic Programs webpage at Level IV Screening Process for additional information.
Let’s Enjoy a Good Laugh!
Thank you to the families who sent in jokes for our McNair community to enjoy. We are still looking for more entries before we finalize our “McNair Joke Reel” for everyone to enjoy. In case you were having trouble using the Flip platform, here are the directions to access and record a video on Flip. It’s quick and easy. And…most importantly, something fun to do with your little Mustang.
The Storybook Character Parade is Back!
We are excited to bring back Storybook Character Day on Friday, October 28th. Students are invited to find a great story and dress up like their favorite character. This day will be filled with fun and conversations all about books as we celebrate this special day. Dressing up is optional. If you choose to do so, please adhere to the following so that our students have a safe and productive day.
- Costumes should not have words, graphics or toy weapons that are inappropriate for school
- No costume face masks
- No painted faces
Whether you are wearing a costume or not, don’t forget to bring your favorite storybook.
Our little Mustangs will be marching around the school showing off their favorite character costumes to each other and our school community. You are welcome to join us on Friday, October 28th at 9:15 a.m. Our little Mustangs will be walking along the sidewalk on the path shown in the picture. To enjoy the parade, please line up along in the grass area along our sidewalk route and enjoy the show!
Fall Spirit Week
Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid
FCPS will be asking ALL families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.
Schools Adopt Text and Translation Platform
FCPS has recently adopted TalkingPoints, a two-way messaging app that allows parents and caregivers to communicate with teachers and schools. For more information, visit the FCPS TalkingPoints webpage.
The app translates messages, so teachers can input messages in English and parents can respond in their preferred language. TalkingPoints supports 125 languages, making it easier and faster for our FCPS families to connect with their schools. If you need to update your preferred correspondence language, contact the front office at 703-793-4800 and ask for the Afkham Hosseini.
