2 Hour Early Release Schedule

Message from Dr. Floyd

Good afternoon Cavalier Families:

Here we go! Our seniors are a quarter of the way done with senior year! Time does fly… in the blink of an eye we will be at EagleBank for graduation.

Please be sure to check SIS for grades as Schoology is not the official grade posting location. Sometimes there are assignments in Schoology that do not go into SIS for grading as they are for practice and not a grade. Therefore, please review your SIS ParentVUE account for the most up-to-date grading information.

Also, remember that next week is a 4-day week to wrap up the quarter. Monday is a holiday to celebrate Diwali, and Friday is an early release at 12:55pm for end of the quarter.

I encourage our families to embrace the moments created by crisp, fall weekends.

Warmly,

Dr. Floyd
Principal

1. Federal Impact Aid Survey

Ask your student for the Federal Impact Aid form that was distributed during 8th period today. Forms are due Friday, November 4th!

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3 and sign/date the form. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by Friday, November 4th. All results are confidential

Watch the video to learn more about this process.

3. Young Hearts Club

Woodson's Young Hearts Club is participating in a national walk called "Light the Night" run by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this Saturday, October 22nd from 6-8:30pm on the National Mall in DC.

Our club has participated for the past 20 years! This event is raising money for blood cancer research. Throughout the 20 years our club has been at Woodson, we have raised almost $1,000,000, and are currently only $11,000 short of this goal. If we achieve this fundraising milestone, we will be the first ever family and friends group to ever do so in the history of the event!

Any donation amount of money helps support this important cause. Be a part of the million.

5. Woodson Drama Presents - Two Fall Productions!

Cemetery Secondary

Murder Mystery Poster

Join us back in the 90’s, as we attend school at Cemetery Secondary, a school for all the cool and creepy students in the area. But today, several students have gone missing! But where have they gone? And has something sinister happened? It’s up to the audience to find out who’s dead, who’s alive, and who’s missing in the entirely original and student-devised Immersive Theatre piece!

Audience members can expect a bone-chillingly good time as they move throughout several rooms in the E-Hall of Woodson Highschool. It is recommended that audience members wear shoes they can walk in. This experience contains decorations that some students may find “creepy” or “too totally rad” and it is recommended that audience members are ages 10-100 for this experience.

NOTE - Recommended for ages 10+ There will be a coloring area for students under the age of 10.
The “runtime” of this experience is around 15 minutes.
This immersive experience is done in small audience pods of about 15-20 people, with a rotating start time, it will be “first come, first serve.”

Tickets for this event start at $2.50, but if you can give more all funds raised from this experience go back to supporting Theatre productions, workshops, and events at Woodson High School!

One Man, Two Guvnors

One Man Flyer

This year WTWDrama is presenting the fast-paced hilarious farce One Man, Two Guvnors.

This play features British accents, 60’s style rock and roll, and an attack with a cricket bat! Who could ask for anything more!?

Based on the classic Italian comedy The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, in this new English version by prizewinning playwright Richard Bean, romance, food and money are high on the agenda. One Man, Two Guvnors opened in 2011 to critical acclaim, and now WTW Drama brings this uproarious farce to FCPS. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes the bodyguard to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time criminal, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from the dad of his fiancée. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel disguised as her own dead brother, who has been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Holed up at the pub The Cricketers Arms, Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be reunited with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple, right? Wrong! Slap fights, slamming doors, and mistaken identity dominate this upbeat evening of hysterical Theatre.

If you are looking for a fast paced comedy and a fun night out, full of irreverent comedy, you’ve found the right show! NOTE: This play may not be considered appropriate for students under 13 - contains mild language, slapstick violence and mild suggestive themes.

This performance features a "pay what you can" sliding scale ticket option, ranging from $5-$30. Please pick the price that works best for you. This aligns with our goal to be as equitable as possible and create art that is accessible by all.  Tickets can be purchased here! Come out and support the nearly 100 students involved in this production!

NOTE: ALL proceeds from the show go to the WTW Drama department. This helps to fund shows, supplies, special workshops, and education events throughout the year for Woodson Theatre students. If you are a household that would like to see the show and cannot afford the $5 ticket option, please reach out to the WTW Drama Theatre Director, Mr. Rushing, at csrushing@fcps.edu

7. Schools to Administer Strategic Plan Student Survey

Opportunity for Students to Help Inform FCPS’ Future

You may have heard FCPS is developing a Strategic Plan that will serve as the school division’s roadmap for the future. We encourage every parent/caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work.

The first engagement opportunity will be an optional survey, which will be open to students in grades 3-12. Knowing what is important to students will be very helpful to Dr. Reid, as she leads the planning of FCPS’ future. All schools, including ours, will schedule a date and time during the school day to administer the survey between November 2-18. If you would prefer that your child not participate, you may opt your child out of taking the survey. Please visit FCPS’ website for more information
