Message from Ms. Kearns

Dear Lake Braddock Families,

We had an exciting week culminating in a true snow storm Friday with our undefeated football team playing against Fairfax in a “white-out” at the same time as our Middle School Theatre’s production of Frozen, Jr.  We wish success to both of those events!

On Thursday, Lake Braddock was fortunate enough to host the FCPS High School Principals Association for their monthly meeting.  This organization consists of all Fairfax County High School Principals.  Our wonderful FACS classes lead by Ms. Ragland, Ms. Moyer, and Mr. Prassa helped to prepare the delicious lunch for the event.  Our JROTC, headed by Sgt Wiles and Cpt Guardo, welcomed our Principals to our school!

This week, we met with our School Planning Council, which is a group of parents, staff and students who want to learn more about various aspects of Lake Braddock and provide feedback.  I am excited by the recommendations that were shared and am looking forward to how we can incorporate the feedback to improve Lake Braddock.

Happy Diwali to all those who celebrate in Bruin Nation!  Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see you all back here Tuesday!

Go Bruins!

Lindsey Kearns

JROTC

impact aid

Impact Aid Survey

FCPS will be asking ALL families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.

Watch the video to learn more about this process or check out the FCPS Impact Aid page.

We Need Your Consent for Digital Resources!

At Lake Braddock, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here. Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your student’s teachers if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources they have chosen to use this year.

FCPS Information

Schools Adopting Text and Translation Platform

FCPS has recently adopted TalkingPoints, a two-way messaging app that allows parents and caregivers to communicate with teachers and schools. Look for messages from your child’s school on how they are implementing the app. For more information, visit the FCPS TalkingPoints webpage.

The app translates messages, so teachers can input messages in English and parents can respond in their preferred language. TalkingPoints supports 125 languages, making it easier and faster for our FCPS families to connect with their schools. If you need to update your preferred correspondence language, contact the front office at your child’s school and ask for the registrar.
