WOODSON SPORTS
Varsity Field Hockey
Woodson outlasted West Potomac in double overtime last Tuesday when Julia Oleyar received a penalty corner injection pass from Reese Cuviello and then ripped a shot into the lower right corner of the goal to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 victory. The game saw solid defensive play by Levi Weinberger, Katie Hamrock, and Sydney Klugiewicz. Goalie AJ Ingson made key stops at the start of the second overtime period to keep the game scoreless. Genna Cooke and Caitlin Tran provided a connected tenacity in the middle of the field for the Cavs.
In their game last Thursday, the Cavs defeated the McLean Highlanders 3-0. In the third quarter, Julia Oleyar outran the McLean defense to receive a pass from Reese Cuviello and then scorched a shot into the goal for the Cavaliers’ first score. The Cavs Bethany Betts scored the second goal. McLean tried to answer minutes later with a penalty corner but was thwarted by goalkeeper Caitlin Deer’s save and defender Kim McNamara’s clearing of the ball. Woodson’s third goal resulted from a beautiful pass that traversed the field from right to left, unleashed by Elizabeth Stribling. The pass found the stick of Alex Walrath, who threaded a pass to Bethany Betts, who scored her second goal of the game. Amanda Lee and Maddie Gaboury contributed defensive stops to preserve the lead.

AP Test Opt-Out Deadline THIS FRIDAY
As part of the FCPS FY 2022 Approved Budget, FCPS is continuing to assess Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) test fees. As in previous years, the fees for the first six AP/IB tests taken for courses in which students are enrolled for high school credit will be paid for by FCPS. Students taking AP tests without enrolling in the corresponding FCPS course are responsible for the test fee(s).
FCPS encourages all students to take AP tests for courses in which they are enrolled. However, students will have the opportunity to opt-out of the test(s) by filling out an Opt-Out form to be provided by the school. To assist in the decision-making process, students will be provided a report with their previous tests and current AP course enrollment. AP students must make Opt-Out decisions by this Friday, October 21st and parents will be billed a $96 non-refundable test fee in December 2022 for tests that exceed the six FCPS funded tests.

Your Voice is Needed: FCPS Strategic Planning
Fairfax County Public Schools launched the engagement phase for developing our brand new Strategic Plan 2023-2028.
Superintendent Michelle Reid has heard from many of you about your hopes and aspirations for our students. That feedback will become part of our proactive strategic plan that will serve as our North Star—or guide—for the future.
The entire FCPS community is invited to engage in building our shared future. This includes hearing from parents and caregivers, students, and broader community, as well as surveying students in grades three and above. You will have an opportunity to have your voice heard in one of many sessions (both in-person and virtual) during November and December. We encourage you to join in this journey by actively participating in the conversation.
The goal is to have the final strategic plan by June 2023. For a more detailed overview, visit FCPS’ Strategic Planning 2023 webpage.
FCPS COVID Protocol
FCPS will continue to follow the guidance of national, state, and local health experts when determining the layered prevention strategies that are needed to keep our schools safe and open for learning. It is important that we all work together towards this goal.
Detailed information can be found in the Health and Safety Guidance Document.
Staying Home When Sick
FCPS continues to require families to review the Daily Health Screening before sending students to school. The 5 Day Isolation Period will also continue for COVID positive students and staff.
