Principal's Message

Happy Fall Friday, Eagle Families,

We have had a wonderful week at KJMS, and all students should have come home this week with their free annual KJMS t-shirt. This year, our theme is a quote by Katherine Johnson, our beloved namesake: “I like to learn. That’s an art and a science.” There will be plenty of Spirit Days in the future for students to showcase their KJMS pride.

Our PTA had a very successful online meeting last night with over 30 attendees! The enthusiasm and ideas from the parents was very encouraging to our new PTA Board. Please look for ways to get involved, such as buying new KJMS Spirit Wear , which is a fundraiser for the PTA.

Also, if you would like to drop off a donation of sealed, small packages of snacks (like nuts, chips, cookies, popcorn, and crackers) that you can get from BJ’s, Costco, or grocery stores, they would be much appreciated. We have weekly staff meetings to review school initiatives and data. The snacks make the meeting much easier on hungry stomachs! Donations can come to the front office.

The fall season also means it is time to nominate staff members for annual recognitions. See the section below for more information (and links) on how to nominate teachers and staff for this prestigious award. We are proud of the staff at KJMS, and know that parents and students often nominate staff members each year.

From FCPS, be on the lookout for information soon on the update of the FCPS Strategic Plan. Also, Impact Aid forms will be coming home soon, and your swift return of them is appreciated. FCPS receives much federal funding, and these forms help capture needed data.

In closing, on this Monday, Dr. Reid will continue her Community Conversations with a stop at Fairfax High School at 6:30-7:30 PM. We hope to see you there! Language interpretation will be provided, as available, as well as childcare and light refreshments. Please register to attend at: Registration Link

Enjoy the changing of the leaves,

Tammy Silipigni

Principal

Superintendent Community Conversations

Dr. Reid

Don’t forget -- Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, will host a Community Conversation at Fairfax High School on Monday, October 17,2022, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

We hope to see you there!

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

pic

Beginning on October 18, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.
