A Note From Mrs. Duffy

This morning’s arrival weather reminded us that winter is coming! Please be sure to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor clothing (jackets/hats/gloves) each day. We will be going outside for recess in the winter most days.

We also want to take a moment to remind families of our safe arrival and dismissal routines for Kiss n Ride. If you are planning to drop off or pick up your child, please help us to keep everyone safe by utilizing the designated Kiss n Ride line. Alternatively, you may park in the neighborhood away from school and walk up to the building. Please do not park on Westchester directly across the street for pick-up or drop-off. Please do not drop your child off on the side of Westchester and allow them to walk up to the school on their own. Arrival and dismissal times are very busy and Westchester Street is full of traffic we want to be sure that everyone is able to arrive and depart school safely each day and we need your help to make this happen! If you have family members who are assisting you with drop-off/pick-up, please share with them the procedures we follow at our school.

Impact Aid

Beginning October 18, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If Sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All responses are confidential.

Watch the video to learn more about this process.

Sibshops

Sibshops Opportunity for Siblings of Children with Special Needs

The first Sibshops for this school year will be held at Providence Community Center on Monday, October 31st. Sibshops are workshops for children in grades 2-6 enrolled in FCPS and they provide an opportunity to meet other siblings in a relaxed setting, celebrate the contributions made by their siblings, share experiences, and most importantly have fun! See fliers in the folder for registration information. This flier has been translated into multiple languages. We have a team of school social workers who plan and facilitate Sibshops. If you are interested in supporting these efforts, e-mail Laura Cook or Beth Holzman.

Food & Nutrition Services (FNS)

As you know, the annual Thanksgiving luncheon that included inviting elementary school parents and family members in years past has not been offered over the last few years due to covid.  This school year, FNS is excited to be able to provide a Thanksgiving lunch menu for students on Thursday, November 17, 2022.  Unfortunately, staffing and supply chain challenges continue to impact daily operations; and, as a result, the lunch will not be open to guests.  I share in your disappointment, as FNS always looks forward to this special event.
