Oct. 10-14 - National School Lunch Week
This week was National School Lunch Week. Students had fun "toasting" to celebrate eating good food with good friends.
President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
We are thankful for all the Food Services employees throughout Fairfax County Public Schools who work so tirelessly to keep our children fed!

Calendar Reminders
Oct. 16-22 - America’s Safe Schools Week
School safety includes keeping campuses free of crime and violence, improving discipline, and increasing student attendance. Schools that are safe and free of violence, weapons and drugs are necessary to ensure the well-being of all children and the quality of their education. The National School Safety Center, state governors and state school superintendents sponsor America's Safe Schools Week. This observance is also actively supported by local, state and national public officials and professional organizations.
At Lees Corner, we keep our school, our students, and our community safe in a variety of ways. We have safety patrols who support their peers throughout the building and on the buses by encouraging others to make safe choices. We follow all guidelines for safety drills to include monthly fire drills, bi-annual lockdown drills, and yearly tornado drills. We also collaborate with the Fairfax County Police Department and FCPS' Office of Safety and Security. In addition, we have staff members assigned to duty posts around the building during both arrival and dismissal to ensure the safety of our students and our school. In the photo above, can you spot the Lees Corner staff member?

Super Staff!
Congratulations to Ms. Hailey Colman on her recognition as the Summer 2022 Region 5 FCPS CARES Recipient of the Month by the Department of Human Resources!
The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story below, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees.
Below is the write-up submitted by a parent of a Lees Corner Elementary School parent.
Ms. Colman is such a gift. She has gone above and beyond helping my daughter who struggles with Tourette's Syndrome, ADHD and anxiety. From finding a book about Tourette’s to help my daughter see herself through the book, providing her fidget tools to help her not pull her eyelashes out, to overall going above and beyond in communication. She has provided my daughter with as much support as possible. On the first day of school, she sent each parent a personalized email about their child’s first day. She is a teacher that others are able to look to as a model. She clearly loves what she does, and she should be recognized. I cannot sing her praises enough.

Toiletries Drive for WFCM 10/11-10/17
Lees Corner graduate and current Eagle Scout Conner Seiler is organizing a toiletries drive for Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. According to Conner:
"WFCM is a food/toiletry bank that gives families in need about $350 a month in free groceries. Toiletry items cannot be purchased by people in need using the Virginia Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). These people are in desperate need of these items, which is why they are so reliant on organizations like WFCM for their toiletry needs. When I recently visited WFCM's location, I saw their toiletry shelves were almost completely barren.
Here is a list of the supplies the beneficiary needs:
Toilet Paper
Shampoo
Conditioner
Deodorant
Size 6 Diapers
Large size pull-ups (for toddlers)
Bodywash
Lotion
Shaving Cream
Razors
Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
Kleenex
All items can be sent to school and dropped off the designated box in the front office.
Virtual Literacy Night Recording
Thank you to all who attended!
We discussed changes to curriculum, small group instruction, and progress reports as well as provided some tips for literacy at home.
The links to the recorded sessions are below.
