Membership Update:

Budget Funded at 91%, 30-ish More Families Needed

Thanks so much to all who have joined the PTO to date.  We are SO CLOSE!

To date, PTO membership is funded at 91%, as we’ve collected fees and donations of $41,183 of our budgeted $45,000.  Please join the PTO today so that we can ensure funding for support of our ASA program, teacher’s professional development, purchase of Virginia Reader books for the library, and our robust appropriations process that meets real-time needs of the school, twice per year, among other things.

After School Activities Update and Snacks Fund Request

Almost a month into the ASA program, we are regularly clocking three times the number of attendees as compared to last year, a great testament to Mr. Taylor and the team he’s put together.  Each student receives a snack upon check-in at the cafeteria, paid for via funds from the county as well as from the PTO, however, triple the attendees are consuming triple the snacks!  Mr. Taylor has comparison shopped, and has found a website, “Boxed”, that beats other sources such as Amazon or Costco regarding price.  If your student is enjoying their ASA (and snack!), and you’d like to make a donation to the snacks fund, you may do so via MySchoolBucks.com , in the School Store, sort by Cooper, and find the button titled After School Snack Donation Fund.

After School Activities Program:

Parent Involvement Opportunity

Do you have a skill or hobby that you’d like to share with our Cooper students via a six-week offering via the ASA program?  Our ASA Specialist, Alex Taylor, welcomes your involvement!  Please contact him directly at ataylor5@fcps.edu.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Indigenous Peoples’ Day, observed as a student holiday this Monday, Oct 10, is meant to honor the past, present and futures of Native people throughout the US.  It allows us to both recognize the legacy of colonialism on Native communities while also celebrating their cultures and contributions.

If you or your students are interested in reading modern Indigenous authors, the following list of Own Voices titles spanning all ages may be a good place to start:
