Strings Class
The Deer Park Strings students are having a wonderful time this year with many new and exciting performing opportunities! This year, the Deer Park Strings students have started a new tradition of teacher birthday serenades. The fifth and the sixth grade orchestras get to play “Happy Birthday” to the teachers and staff of Deer Park on their special day from memory!
We are also very excited to announce two new musicians that will be joining us this year! Mr. D’Amato and Mrs. Hitz are learning how to play a stringed instrument! Mr. D’Amato will be playing the cello this year and Mrs. Hitz is performing on bass. They already attended a handful of lessons and are doing a fantastic job! The Strings students love it when they stop in for a lesson! Congratulations Mr. D’Amato and Mrs. Hitz!
Just Breathe!
Over the past few weeks, Ms. Jeter, our Behavior Resource Teacher, has been teaching our students the Zones of Regulation. One of the strategies is to focus on our breathing. Next time you're in the building check out our breathing zones.
Controlled breathing can also cause physical changes in your body:
- lowered blood pressure and heart rate
- reduced levels of stress hormones in the blood
- improved immune system functioning
- increased physical energy
- increased feelings of calm and wellbeing
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, students learned about famous Hispanic Americans. Then they shared connections, wonderings, and new information about the person they studied. Take a look at the slideshow that our classes put together.
