Message from the Principal

Dr. Maggie Grove

Greetings to our Wolftrap families,

We have an exciting week coming up with Pizza Bingo on Friday, October 14th. Teachers and students are looking forward to this fun event. They are also looking forward to upcoming field trips as well. If you volunteer for a field trip, please remember that you still need to check in at the office. Attending a field trip is the same as volunteering in a classroom, so we need a record of who is attending. We appreciate your support as we continue to nurture every learner!

Dr. Maggie Grove
Principal

Disability History and Awareness Month

DISABILITY HISTORY AWARENESS MONTH: During October, activities provide an opportunity to create greater public awareness for individuals with disabilities, with the goal of full inclusion in our community.

DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH: The Parent Resource Center will host an open house for parents to learn more about dyslexia and how to support students with dyslexia on October 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. Learn more about PRC events on their website. The FCPS Dyslexia handbook also provides information and resources to families. It reflects a division-wide commitment to ensure that the needs of students with dyslexia are met as a result of collective responsibility and collaboration across general and special education contexts. On October 18th from 6:30-7:45 p.m. the Virginia Branch of the International Dyslexia Association is offering a session of  Understanding Dyslexia: Opening the Door to Literacy for All. If you are interested in joining this synchronous learning opportunity, click here to register. The Zoom link to join will be sent in your confirmation email.

AFTER-SCHOOL ENTRY INTO THE BUILDING:  Students are not allowed to return to classrooms after the school day, even if they are escorted by a parent. It is important that we do not allow interruptions for our teachers who volunteer their time after 3:20 PM. Often teachers are conducting meetings with parents, are involved in professional development, or are engrossed in planning engaging lessons for your children.  Also, it is a safety concern to have students in the building and possibly entering classrooms with no adult supervision. Please understand that forgotten homework, musical instruments, or lunch boxes are common; however, all students and adults in the building after-school need to have appointments with teachers who have granted their permission in advance.

SIXTH GRADE FAMILIES: Dr. Grove is looking for sixth graders to present at the Veteran’s Day Assembly on November 10th. Please fill out the Google form here if you are interested. The deadline for completing the form is October 12th. This form has been posted on the sixth grade Schoology site since October 6th.

EVENT FOR MILITARY CONNECTED FAMILIES: Dr. Reid has extended this invitation to military-connected families in the community. Family and School Partnerships will be sharing this invitation through their military-connected networks, as well.

ESSER AT A GLANCE DOCUMENT: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) needs. Wolftrap has posted our “at a glance” document on our website. Please click the link here to read that information.

LGBTQIA+ History Month

LGBTQIA+ History Month is recognized in October nationwide. We acknowledge and celebrate that LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and families are an integral component of our nation.

Class Dues for All Grade Levels

Class Dues

Our Room Parents are rolling out class dues requests this week. For your convenience, the PTA is facilitating the collection of class dues online at www.wolftrappta.org.  Log into your PTA account and select “My Account”.  You should then see options for paying class dues for your Wolftrap child(ren) and updating your Household Information.

As a reminder, class dues are used to help offset the costs of grade-level events, parties, supplies and shirts and are paid in advance to avoid multiple collections throughout the year. Reach out to your Grade Level Lead Parents if you have questions - you will be hearing more from them this week. If you haven't already, please also consider joining the PTA and help us reach our goal of 100% parent participation! The class dues form can be accessed via this link.

We will be having four "Discussions in the Den" this school year.

Our first topic is: What is Portrait of a GraduateWhat is POG POL?

Portrait of Graduate skills (POG) are all about students using and growing skills that will help them succeed in all aspects of life, including across school subjects, at home, and in the community.  These skills connect with hobbies, interests and in future careers, passions and relationships! Presentations of Learning (POL) are an opportunity for students to share their growth in using these skills, in their own words. Come and learn about how Wolftrap teachers use these skills in the classroom, and how you might use them at home..9:00am in the Teacher Workroom. Please sign in at front office.

Link for the evening Zoom will be provided on the day of the event for those who RSVP. Click the following Google link to RSVP:
