CES Weekly Update 10.14.22

Principal's Message

We've enjoyed a great week of learning after leading the week with a staff professional development workday. Staff engaged in PD around cuturally responsive teaching practices that are aligned with the updated Virginia Department of Education evaluation standards. Student ambassadors also took part in a morning workshop Thursday to learn about how their skills as a leader can positvely impact their school community.

The PTA meet this week and welcomed parents in person as well as virtually. This platform seems to be working well for our parent coffee and PTA meetings to include as many families as possible.

Our next parent coffee will be held on 10/25 at 9:15 AM. This is a change in date due to a conflict in my schedule.  I apologize for any inconvenience.  Information and our video will be shared with families.

I wanted to share a concern about our crosswalk safety on Kirby road over the past couple of weeks. It has been noticed that cars are driving fast on Kirby (not our families for the most part) and even speeding up to beat people in the crosswalk. This is concerning as we all work together to ensure the safety of our families. I am working to ensure the school zone lights are functional as students walk to and from school and also work with our McLean police to help enforce a safe speed where cars stop for pedestrians in our crosswalks. Thank you for being viligant while using the crosswalk and also while driving your children to and from school.

We have had many recent events including our book fair, grade level field trips and our kickball kickoff. These events would not be possible without our parent volunteers.  Additionally, we have truly appreciated our lunch volunteers that help us throughout the week. Please know how much your time and support of our students is valued.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at Kickball Kickoff!

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick

5th and 6th Grade Student Ambassadors

Student ambassadors were sent an email to register or a workshop either this Thursday or next Wednesday. If students were not able to come this week, please have your ambassador register to attend next Wednesday, 10/19. Ambassador will be sent emails on their school gmail account to be given notice of events and opportunities.

Mrs. Lomelin shared an opportunity for our pencil sales team. If students would like to join in that opportunity, they needed to register by today, Friday 10/14.

My School Bucks Reimbursements

The past couple of weeks we have needed to clean up quite a few overpayments (paying twice for a field trip) on school items or payments of old items (last years grade level tshirt) that should have not been listed as current. If you received a reimbursement for payment it was most likely due to one of these issues. If you have questions regarding any MySchool Bucks items you can reach out to Mrs. Cindy Flores, our Administrative Assistant at 703-714-8200.

All buttons currently listed for field trips and tshirts are valid. Please note that we will cut off field trip and tshirt payments within a strict timeline to allow Ms. Flores to pay the vendor on time. Your help with timely payments is appreciated.
