Indigenous Peoples' Day honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Native peoples, past and present. This year, Monday, October 10, is a student holiday and staff development day.
Would you like your Mustang to test their problem-solving skills against kids all across the nation in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC)? McNair Upper Elementary is proud to host the entry-level middle school version of the AMC, called the AMC 8. The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice math exam designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills for anyone in 8th grade or younger. The questions cover a variety of levels and topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum, so you're sure to find something good to puzzle over.
If you would like your child to a participate in this opportunity, please sign-up using the link below as soon as possible because we have only 50 seats to offer. Families who register their child for this opportunity should understand that their child must have a strong working knowledge of math content; including multi-step word problems.
AMC 8 Math Registration Form
- Exam date: January 17, 2023 (inclement weather back-up date: January 23, 2023)
- Examiner: Ms. Teresa Kelley, 5th Grade AAP Teacher
If your child is one of the first 50 students to be registered, a follow-up email will be sent to the enrolling parents' email address to confirm their participation. If your child is selected to participate, there is a $2.50 fee that will have to be paid on MYSCHOOLBUCKS to cover the cost of their assessment. Please do not pay the fee unless your child's participation has been confirmed.

The deadline for the fall Full Time (Level IV) Advanced Academics referral is approaching. All materials should be submitted to Mrs. Janofsky, the McNair Upper AART, by Saturday October 15 at 11:59pm.The fall screening window is for students newly enrolled in FCPS after January 2022. Scroll down to the "Full Time Level IV Services" section on this website for the referral form and other important information. For detailed instructions regarding documentation and work samples, click here and scroll down to the "Screening Files" section. October 15 is a firm deadline.
