CAVS VARSITY SPORTS
Varsity Field Hockey
Last Wednesday’s game against Fairfax had a playoff atmosphere that the Woodson players responded to with dogged defense, formidable goalkeeping, and explosive offense. While the Cavaliers ultimately lost 3-1, there were a lot of bright spots. Genna Cooke and Elizabeth Stribling matched the Fairfax physicality and set a determined tone with their runs down both sides of the field. Katie Robertson, playing in her first varsity game, and Reese Cuviello showed tenacity in stopping Fairfax attacks. Julia Oleyar counterattacked the relentless Fairfax physicality by pounding passes to teammates and scoring a goal in the first quarter, which was assisted by Cuviello, to tie the game and which froze the Fairfax goalkeeper. The defensive quintet of Kim McNamara, Katie Hamrock, Sydney Klugiewicz, Levi Weinberger, and Ella Mathias was not fazed by an early Fairfax score and continued to use stickwork and positioning to keep the game balanced. Their efforts were bolstered by goalie AJ Ingson, as they rejected Lions’ shots, including a huge point-blank penalty stroke in the second quarter. The Cavs play again this Wednesday at West Springfield.
Varsity Volleyball
Lake Braddock came to the wrong house last Tuesday, as the Cavaliers posted a 3-0 win over the Bruins, scoring 25-17, 25-19, and 25-17. Unfortunately, the momentum didn’t last through Thursday, as the Cavs suffered a hard loss to the two-time state finalist Alexandria City Titans 0-3.
The Volleyball team would like to thank all their fans and supporters for the great turnout for “Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer” last Tuesday.

Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
If you would like to view the FLE materials, please fill out this form. Blair Smith, Director of Student Activities, will set up a time for you to come in and view hard copies for each grade level of FLE materials.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. Completed opt-out forms can be returned to the school main office.
