Oak View Sings the National Anthem at Woodson Football Game

Oak View was well-represented in singing the National Anthem at the Woodson football game Friday night. Over 30 of our 5th and 6th graders joined voices with Frost MS, Woodson HS, and other elementary schools in the Woodson pyramid to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” minutes before the game. We love to see so much green and gold spirit out there, Oak View. Way to help lead and be a part of the community! Thanks to all the parents who supported their students in this event and for the contribution of pictures and videos. Thank you to Oak View Chorus Directors, Mrs. Sweet and Mrs. Singletary, for their preparations and support!

ESSER III Funding Supports Student Success: Your Voice Matters

In the fall of 2021, FCPS received $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding to support the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on students.

ESSER III focus areas have included resources for prevention and mitigation of COVID, academic services, multilingual engagement, support for students’ social emotional needs, and professional development.

Your Voice Matters!

A feedback form will be live on the ESSER III webpage Friday, September 23. Your input will inform the School Board and FCPS staff on the community’s view of our work. Watch this video to see the impact ESSER III funds are having in our schools. Learn more on FCPS’ website

At Oak View, we look forward to the upcoming approval of our plan for this school year and have allocated funds to support literacy and math instruction as well as outdoor classroom space and wellness gardens.

Last year, Oak View ESSER III funds were used for the items below:

  • 2, 6-week before school academic intervention for identified students

After School Clubs Returning to Oak View

Oak View is very excited to partner with the OV PTA and begin to return our after school clubs. Prior to COVID closures, Oak View had a robust after school program for students. Our wonderful parent volunteers through the PTA made this possible. We are looking for interested families to support the return of these clubs this school year! We are excited to begin with a Girls on the Run option and the flyer is here. Our PTA also has a chess club in the works and we want to have even more. In order to hold these events, our PTA must have a coordinator for these programs. If available to support, please contact our PTA officers here.

Homecoming Season - Support our Pyramid High Schools!

Oak View is very fortunate to be a part of two excellent high school pyramids in FCPS. As a split feeder, Oak View students will attend either Robinson Secondary School or Woodson High School. We are glad our high schools continue to encourage participation of future Ram and Cavalier families through invitations to upcoming events, including Homecoming Parades!

Robinson's parade was a huge success on Friday with many Oak View families in attendance. Woodson's parade is coming in two weeks so save the date to join us along the parade route! Parade information will be posted here.

Homecoming Parade Dates:

Woodson High School - Friday, 10/7 @ 4:30 PM

The Social Emotional Learning Screener - What Every Family Needs to Know

Oak View will administer the Social Emotional Learner (SEL) Screener in the fall and spring this year. Social and emotional learning competencies are foundational skills for success in school and beyond. The screener provides valuable information that guides planning and learning opportunities for families, staff, students, and school communities.

Join FCPS parent resources in an informational session to learn more about SEL in FCPS, the role of the SEL Screener, and how families and schools might partner to foster skills over time.

Highlights include:

  • Learn about SEL in FCPS
  • Unpack the SEL Screener: What it is and how it's used?
  • Understand student results
  • Explore ways to continue conversations about SEL at home

Presented by: Lisa Phifer, FCPS Educational Specialist, Trauma Informed SEL, and Jaynie Van Sant, FCPS Social and Emotional Learning Systems Specialist

October 7, 2022 10-11:30 a.m.

Still Seeking Monitors - Join our Oak View Staff

Oak View is still seeking interested community members to serve as Monitors. The hiring of monitors will promote additional valuable planning time for the teachers on a consistent basis and is required per new county regulations. Monitors will be trained to cover recess for a classroom teacher a time or two a week. Again, these are hourly paid positions and required at all schools. We look forward to welcoming Oak View community members to express interest via email to our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Hanson, at rnhanson@fcps.edu. The monitor position is paid at an hourly rate of $16.36 per hour and assistance is needed between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM most days. There is flexibility within this time and days of the week. Thank you for considering joining our Oak View team!

You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours.
