Floris Families,

We enjoyed a full week of learning this week and enjoyed having lunch visitors again. In the coming weeks parents will have the opportunity to connect with their child's teacher for parent/teacher conferences. This is an opportunity for teachers to continue to work with parents as partners in their child's education and to discuss student progress during the first several weeks of school.

Happy Diwali to all those who celebrate this day and the victory of light over darkness. Monday, October 24 is a holiday for teachers and students.

The Book Fair is happening, and the Fall Book Fair Family Night is next Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:00pm in the library. Please plan to enter and exit through Door 4 to go the the Fall Book Fair Family Night.

The Annual Harvest Parade is scheduled for next Friday, 9:30-10:30am. Next Friday is also a two hour early release date, and all students will be dismissed from Floris at 2:00pm.

Have a wonderful weekend!

“Amazing Creatures”- Third Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Sponsored by Floris Green Team

To celebrate the fall harvest, our Green Team invites all students to participate in a pumpkin decorating contest focused on the theme, “Amazing Creatures!" Show us your creative talents while thinking about the animals and other creatures that share our Earth.  Pumpkin artists are encouraged to incorporate natural materials (acorns, leaves, flowers, sticks, etc.) and/or non-toxic Earth-friendly paints.  Photos of your creation may be submitted to Sarah de Kramer at shdekramer@fcps.edu by Wednesday, Nov. 2nd.  Awards will be given under two categories: Most Creative Use of Natural Materials, and Best Representation of the Theme, “Amazing Creatures.”  Photos will also be displayed at school.

Impact Aid Forms

Each year, FCPS is eligible to apply for federal Impact Aid grant funds and anticipates receiving about $3,000,000 annually in funds. FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources. The pre-filled Student-Parent Survey is coming home in Friday Folders today.

Please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's homeroom teacher by Friday, November 4!

If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just sign, date, and return the form by the due date.

For more information, please see the FCPS Impact Aid Student-Parent Survey page
