5th Grade Learning about the Constitution

Constitution Day

George Mason University’s

Experimental Geometry Lab

GMU Students

Students in Grades 2 and 3 had the opportunity to engage in mathematics with George Mason University’s Experimental Geometry Lab. They engaged in an experimental approach to applied mathematics. How big is REALLY big? Was one lesson taught where student learned how big numbers can get by stepping through different orders of magnitude, using hands-on activities along the way, students gain an intuition for the sheer magnitude of the real numbers.

Student Internet Activity Reports

Available to Parents

There is a new online service that is free to FCPS parents who are interested in knowing more about their child’s internet activity on an FCPS device. Parents can sign up to receive a weekly Parent Report from Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, which will provide a list of the top sites the child visited that week.

Additionally, if parents wish to get more detailed information, the weekly Parent Report offers parents the ability to self-sign-up to the free Internet Use Parent Portal. Parents who sign up for the Internet Use Parent Portal can log-in any time to see a little more detail about their child’s internet browsing. The portal also offers the parent added ability to “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours on the FCPS device.

Interested parents can submit a request directly via the Technology Support for Families page for weekly Parent Reports. FCPS will validate the enrolling parent’s email in SIS, and once processed, the parent will receive a weekly report over each weekend. The weekend report will come from our internet content filtering service, Lightspeed.

More information can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/lightspeed-parent-reports including a sample view of the Parent Report and the Internet Use Parent Portal. Additional information about what the parent portal reports provide can be found on the vendor information site.

Attendance Matters!

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:

Absences
  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Pickup Patrol

Important Reminders

Greenbriar East uses PickUp Patrol for parents to report absences, late arrivals, and early pick-ups.

GBE values PickUp Patrol as it ensures a safe dismissal for all students based on the child's default plan. Please use the link here.

To update your child's default plan to "bus rider", "kiss and ride", or "walker," simply log in and select a dismissal option. Then hit submit and that’s it! Your child's teacher and the main office will be notified. Updating your child's default plan is a one-time action. Use PickUp Patrol regularly to report a plan change, absence, late arrival, or early pick-up. A default plan is NEEDED for all students.

ALL PLAN CHANGES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 2:15 P.M.

Please contact our main office if you do not have an active account and require a new welcome activation email.
