The Impact of Teacher Grants

In the Classroom...

This year, Educate Fairfax granted nearly $85,000 to 52 teachers around the county to be used for innovative classroom projects that relate to future careers. These grants are already making a difference! Check out some stories below!

Key Center

Students at Key Center have used funds from Educate Fairfax to open the "Key Cafe," a small business run entirely by students.

The students shop for materials, bake different flavors of bread, make coffee orders, and sell to the staff every Friday. Grant funds purchased a bread machine, ingredients, a Keurig machine and containers to keep the cups, lids and different coffees organized. This project gives the kids real world experience in a customer service industry.

Belle View Elementary School

Belle View students in the special education program are having a blast with the Let’s Get Cookin’ project.  Each week students use a visual recipe and work together to create a different dish.  Students learn and practice many skills in the areas of reading, math, fine motor, communication, and teamwork.  They’ve made applesauce, grilled cheese, homemade butter and so much more!  The students are always engaged and excited to try new experiences!

Edison High School

Edison High School students are building an electric bicycle with funds from Educate Fairfax. They have ordered parts and begun testing and fitting them to the machine. When the students have the bike completed, they will run tests against other similar machines to see how theirs compares in endurance, power consumption, off-road capability and distance-with-load. With every step, students are learning skills that will take them into many different careers!

Your donation directly impacts students and educators.

Educate Fairfax invests in long-term outcomes for FCPS students, through gap needs for disadvantaged students, recognition of stellar educators, literacy efforts for the youngest learners, or direct grants to teachers to support work-based learning. In 2023, Educate Fairfax will begin using funds from the newly created Innovators Fund to provide STEM equipment and other tools for innovation directly to elementary schools. We believe that strong schools are the bedrock of a vibrant community.

Your monetary donation will help students achieve their maximum potential and create lasting impact, one child at a time.
