CAVS VARSITY SPORTS
Varsity Field Hockey
The Cavaliers corralled the South County Stallions 6-0 last Tuesday. Siena Niedrick notched a hat trick with all three assists coming from Elizabeth Stribling. Ms. Stribling scored the first goal of the game off passes from Mia Zganjar and Julia Oleyar. Bethany Betts added a goal in the third quarter and Reese Cuviello tallied the last goal of the night on a parabolic push from Julia Oleyar. Goalkeeper AJ Ingson rejected several Stallion shots to preserve the shutout.
Varsity Volleyball
Last week was a mixed bag for the Cavs, with a 3-1 win at home over South County on Tuesday and a tough 0-3 loss at West Springfield on Thursday. Playmakers included freshman Emma Gardner, earning player of the game on Tuesday, and junior Stella Gilligan with a strong showing serving and on defense.
Join the Cavs tonight (Tuesday) for the freshman, JV, and varsity home games against Lake Braddock, and wear gold and yellow to help support “Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer”. Proceeds from the bake sale and wristband purchase go to raising funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer.
Varsity Football
Friday Night Lights returned to Woodson on Friday September 9th! A huge congratulations to the Woodson Varsity football team on the home opener victory against the Wakefield Warriors! Final score of 37-7!!! Under the leadership of new Head Coach, Eric Henderson, the Woodson Cavaliers showed that hard work & determination pays off! Every player that stepped on the field helped lead the team to victory. First and second touchdowns were compliments of Kai Sanchez, followed by a third touchdown by Cameron Marks. Themba Chika gave Woodson their fourth TD, followed by a safety and then a fifth & final touchdown by our QB, Aidan Dash - who also became a big brother for the 3rd time on Friday!! Well deserved congrats to the Woodson football team and a huge congratulations to Coach Dash & his family with the safe arrival of Savannah Mercedes Blanco Dash! And, congratulations Coach Henderson for his first win and here’s to many, many more to follow!
The Cavaliers of Woodson headed to Falls Church on Thursday September 15th to take on the Jaguars! The Jaguars came out of the corner swinging and were first on the scoreboard. This fueled the Cavs and Themba Chika quickly answered with a touchdown of his own. Following his lead, Ryan Rivera provided WTW with their 2nd and 3rd touchdowns of the game. WTW’s 4th and 5th TD’s were compliments of Kai Sanchez and Gabe Castro, respectively, and the game concluded with an exciting interception by Tanner Watts with 1:25 left in the game! The Cavs celebrated their 31-13 final score victory over Falls Church and their 2nd “W” of the 2022 season under leadership of new Head Coach, Eric Henderson! CONGRATULATIONS CAVS!!!
