Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Hispanics have had a profound and positive influence on our country through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service. They have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multiethnic and multicultural customs of their community.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 10, falls within this 30 day period.

Ms. Rodriguez’ Spanish 5 class will be helping us celebrate our Hispanic Heritage Month.  Starting this week we will be celebrating one of the 22 Hispanic countries during our school announcements.  Spanish classes are also decorating our sidewalks with positive messages in Spanish this week.  We will also have our Annual Hispanic Interactive Wax Museum in October, details to come soon.  Stay tuned for more celebrations!

¡Qué viva la hispanidad!”
