Dear Bailey's Families,

This week we completed the 4th week of school!  It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown by.  This week our counselors met with classes to introduce and model how to use the new playground equipment.  It’s been wonderful to see students playing with the new equipment.  Thank you to Sara Crummett and Nicole Wilkins for their hard work!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Back to School Night next week!  Please plan to join us!  This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher and learn more about the grade-level curriculum.

As always thank you for your support of our school!  The weather is going to be amazing this weekend!  We hope you can enjoy the weather and have some special family time.

FCPS Special Education Handbook for Families

The Special Education Handbook for Parents includes details of the special education process. This process occurs sequentially, over a period of time, with each step building upon the previous step(s).

It is important for families to understand how the special education process works, so they can effectively participate and collaborate with school staff members in making appropriate decisions regarding their child’s educational needs. Families are an integral part of the decision-making team.

The Special Education Handbook for Parents is available in Arabic, English, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese. Contact the Parent Resource Center (PRC) at 703-204-3941 or prc@fcps.edu with any questions.

Kiss and Ride

For parents who will be driving their children to school, staff members will greet students in the “Kiss and Ride” line starting at 8:50 a.m. and ending at 9:00 a.m. Please have your child sitting on the right hand passenger side and ALWAYS exit on the right.  Please practice this routine with your child.  After 9:00 a.m., parents must park and walk students inside to the office for a late pass.  Kiss and Ride pick up is from 3:35 p.m. to 3:55 p.m.  Any adult picking up a student at 3:55 p.m.  or after will need to park and enter Door 1 (main entrance) to pick up their student.  They will also need to be listed on the emergency care card and have a valid ID.

Parents need to stay in their cars during arrival and dismissal.  There will be plenty of adults available to help children get in and out of cars.

Helpful Information from our Mental Health Team

Learning to wait for a turn can be a skill you practice at home. Work with your child on how to count breaths when having to wait for something. There are various times when students must wait and the time can go by faster with children better equipped to manage the frustration of waiting if they are given a task. For school, students might have to wait in line for the bus, wait in line to enter the school building, lining up for recess, waiting for others to finish their work, wait in the lunch line, etc. Practicing at home or in the community when you have to wait (the light to change to green, in line at the grocery store, for an advertisement to be over/being able to hit the “skip” button) can be working with your child to count breaths, count when their belly goes in or out with a breathe can give your child some control which can help to diffuse feelings of frustration and teach your child a life skill of having to wait.
