Dot Day is about celebrating what it means to be an artist as well as perseverance and trying your best no matter what! This day was first coined by the beloved children’s book author, Pete Reynolds, in his book, The Dot. If you haven't read the book, we highly recommend it!
Community Conversation with FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Reid

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
McNair Elementary families are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held on September 28th at 4:00 p.m. in the Library. All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be will come home in Tuesday folders next week and are available online at Elementary (K-6).
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are also available online at Elementary (K-6). FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account. Grade level-specific lessons are also available at the City of Fairfax Regional Library.
Tutor.com is Free for FCPS Students
FCPS students continue to have unlimited access to live, 24/7, 1-to-1, online tutoring services through Tutor.com at no cost to families during the 22-23 SY. Student participation is optional and parents/guardians can opt their student(s) out of accessing the services. Detailed information and FAQs are available on the Tutor.com Online Tutoring Services website.
Students can access Tutor.com via a link in Schoology. Additional information about how to log in and access a tutor is provided to families via the following: Elementary - How It Works and Middle & High - How It Works. Questions not answered in the posted resources may be sent to onlinetutoring@fcps.edu.
Rosh Hashanah is a Student Holiday

Complete SR&R Signature Sheet by September 30
Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/caregiver with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30. Visit the SIS Parentvue Account Overview page for help logging in to your account. Please contact us at 703-793-4800, if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.
Advanced Academic Programs Overview Meeting for K-6 Parents
You are invited to join us on Tuesday, September 27 from 6:00-7:00 PM in the cafeteria at McNair Elementary School (primary building) for a joint information session with Kaitlin Burg (McNair ES Advanced Academic Resource Teacher) and Mallory Janofsky (McNair Upper ES Advanced Academic Resource Teacher). They will provide an overview of Advanced Academics in FCPS and explain the AAP levels of service.

Family Engagement Survey Results
FCPS administered its second Family Engagement Survey in the 2021-22 school year to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school communities. Key findings include:
- 91% responded that “My child feels safe at school.”
- 90% feel their school welcomes families of different backgrounds and cultures.
- 90% feel the information provided by my child’s school is easy to understand.
- 89% feel welcome at my child’s school.
- 89% feel their school is safe.
The survey was open from March 13-April 10 and was available in 10 languages. All families with students in preK through 12th grade were invited to participate. View survey results on our website.

McNair ES After School Enrichment Program
Welcome all McNair students to a fun enrichment session at McNair Elementary! The PTA has partnered with Baroody Camps, Inc. to provide a wide variety of after school enrichment classes for students across all grade levels. In Northern Virginia, Baroody Camps has been providing summer camps since 2003 and enrichment classes since 2014.
