Meet our Family Liaison, Maria Agha

Maria Agha

Hello!

I am Maria Agha and I am very excited to be part of the Fairview Elementary School. I welcome you all, new and returning students to our wonderful school that sees great value and strength that parents and families bring to our students’ learning. As you meet your teachers, staff and Principal on upcoming events at the school, you will also find me connecting parents and military families with great FCPS programs, services, school staff, teachers, counsellors, and multicultural resources and information that you may need during the journey with your student this year. Please visit our website for ‘News you Choose’ and look out for events and fun pictures of your student activities, www.fcps.edu, and check our resources page to stay engaged with options that are available to you. From time to time, I will be sending out information through the News you Choose to parents with available updates to accommodations for special needs.

I am available as a ‘care connect’ for all families on Mondays and Fridays to help you discuss and share personal information. Please connect with me through my email magha@fcps.edu or meet me at the school to safeguard privacy and discuss support to help students succeed. Parents are central to building resilience and understanding to our journey and I appreciate your responsiveness.

You can always reach out to me as the situation requires. My responsibility is to provide you all the support, updates that links you with our FCPS and community resources, Parent Resource Center, Phone Lines, teams and workshops both for transitioning military families and new students throughout the year. I will be happy to meet you at the school or virtually if needed, to chat with you if you are looking for options to register for any of our early literacy, Hippy, Family reunification, Parenting projects, or Loving solutions, GTK (Getting to Know FCPS).

Kindergarten Apple Day

Kindergarten students learned about apples by participating in different stations on Friday, Sept. 16.  They studied the parts of an apple, tasted different apples, and enjoyed some apple games.  Check out these pictures of our kindergarten students in action!

attendance

September is Attendance Awareness Month

The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success. Visit FCPS’ Attendance web page for tips and strategies.

Home Sick

When Should My Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit our site for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and your school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify [INSERT SCHOOL CONTACT HERE], so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse, and call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long. Attend today, Achieve Tomorrow!

Monitor

Be a Monitor - Join our Fairview Staff

Fairview has had a wonderful start to the school year. As we plan forward, we are seeking to hire monitors to supervise students at non-instructional blocks of their day. The hiring of monitors will promote additional valuable planning time for the teachers on a consistent basis and is required per new county regulations. Monitors will be trained to cover recess for a classroom teacher a time or two a week. Again, these are hourly paid positions and required at all schools. We look forward to welcoming Fairview community members to express interest via email to our Assistant Principal, Ms. Ehrman, at rnrehrman@fcps.edu. The monitor position is paid at an hourly rate of $16.36 per hour There is flexibility within this time and days of the week. Thank you for considering joining our Fairview team!
