Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We hope to see many of you tonight at our PTA’s Annual Ice Cream Social!  It looks like the weather will be perfect!  Please remember this is not a drop off event.  Parents or guardians are required to attend.  We are just over halfway to the PTA’s Help the Hive fundraising goal!  Tonight we get to celebrate!

Over the last week, we have had three different parent sessions, two for AAP and one for our literacy instruction.  If you were not able to attend, the recordings and slidedecks are included below.

It appears that some road work will be done on Carnegie over the next several weeks.  I have made attempts to connect with the project manager to share our schedule for Kiss N Ride.  We are not sure exactly what the work will look like, but I have been assured from the general information about the project that one lane of the road will remain open at all times.  Please add an extra dose of patience over the next few weeks if you use Kiss N Ride.

Here are some additional items included in today’s newsletter:

  • Recording and Slidedeck from our Virtual Parent Coffee on Shifts in Reading Instruction and Assessment - NEW
  • Supporting Your Child In A Digital World - NEW
  • School Pictures Are Now Online! - NEW
  • Recording and Slidedecks from AAP Levels of Service Information and today’s Level IV Information Session
  • Positivity Project
  • Superintendent Community Conversation: Marshall Pyramid - September 22 - Updated - Time Change
  • School Meals/Menu and Free/Reduced Lunch Applications - Reminder

Supporting Your Child in a Digital World

September: Digital Citizenship

Week: 2: Why digital citizenship is important

HH Pic

Just as we teach our children and students what it means to and how to be a good citizen, we must do the same for technology.  Children are living in a digital world that is ever changing and need guidance for how to safely navigate and use technology.

There are many resources available to families to support building digital citizenship and navigating technology use, including the FCPS Digital Citizenship: Families webpage and Common Sense Media.  Your child can learn digital citizenship skills playing Digital Passport (Grades 3-5) or Digital Compass (Grades 6-8).

Positivity Project:

Being Present and Giving Others My Attention

PP Picture Logo

This week, we are working on ONE of the FIVE overarching components of the Positivity Project. Being present and giving others my attention is an important component of building strong relationships.

“The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply.”

                    ~Stephen Covey

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What does it mean to be present and give other people my attention?
  • How might being present and giving others my attention be important to building healthy relationships?
  • Why do we need relationships?
